My family and I had a wonderful stay at the Vanderbilt. I only regret that we did don’t stay longer. We loved how the hotel and our room was decorated. The staff were all wonderful, especially Elizabeth. Going above and beyond to accommodate my family and make us feel special and taken care of. If we come back to Newport we would definitely return to the Vanderbilt. Thank you for a wonderful stay

I like to start off with positives - great breakfast with many delicious options, comfortable bed, cheerful and courteous kitchen staff. Our checkin was less than friendly or professional. Our first room had black mold which was clearly visible in and around the ceiling air vent. When brought to the attention of the front desk person, we were not only challenged but advised nothing could be done-thery were full despite a well lit ”vacancy ” sign. The front desk staff finally relented and magically another room became available. It was basically the size of a walkin closet. The young lady at the front desk was clearly inexperienced. Not once was there an apology for the inconvenience, ”how do we make this right” just another example of how customer service is long gone. We were told that parking was included at the time the reservation was made however we had to pay for parking at the rate of $20 a day. Our last day, despite a locked door and DND sign on the doorknob housekeeping let themselves in while we were sleeping. We were jolted awake. If all you want is a decent room and great location- walking distance to everywhere-this is the place for you. We won't be back and would not recommend. The front desk staff needs training in hospitality and customer service. Combative, argumentative and, really unfriendly and unwelcoming.

We were disappointed in our stay. When we booked, we specifically selected ”water view” and the room was advertised as having 2 ”queen” beds. Although perhaps both were technically true, we certainly felt ripped off. The view we had was actually into the atrium where you could technically see the water through a window all the way across the atrium - a couple hundred feet away. The beds may have been bigger than full but were at least 6” less than a typical 60” wide queen. Since we paid extra for the view we didn't feel it was worth the price. The room out of that context was nice, but it had no complementary bottled water or coffee and at checkout we were told that was due to Covid somehow which made no sense to us. The walls were also pretty thin and it felt like someone was flushing the toiled right next to me while I was in bed. Overall it was clean and the staff was friendly but it was not what we expected for $700/night.

I wish there was a rating between poor and average. I thought I'd give this hotel a try especially from their Instagram photos only to be disappointed with our very outdated and dusty room . It's not worth the overpriced rate of $360 (w AAA discount) for the off season . We stayed in a Narraganset King Water view w balcony room which was far away from the lobby in the Captains Quarters convention hall area. I even spoke to a manager as I was leaving how disappointed we were and how they need to definitely renovate their bathrooms for safety. The tub has old glass sliding doors with an extra step that can be difficult climbing out of . My husband slipped and had nothing to hold on to but the towel rack that looked like it was about to break off . We were also surprised to find over $35 in taxes (hotel and room tax plus a $25 resort fee which was not disclosed when I booked over the phone, but stated it was in the confirmation email. Maybe it feels like a resort in the summer, but not in March. fyi, they will also put a $125.00 hold on your credit card for any add;l pending charges . There is a safe in the closet and a small fridge, but hard to find hidden in one of the nightstands. The walk to down town was about 15 minutes and there's a small park before the bridge to Goat Island. Not much walking to be had on Goat Island . NO info was given for parking at the hotel in advance, and don't fall for the crazy expensive overnight valet prices $35 . There's self parking, but just not close to the lobby. The lobby looks nice and modern and we did not visit the restaurant, so we can't rate that , but this hotel needs room improvements and we will most likely not return . Do your research and read the reviews before booking . Honestly , there's so many better hotels in Newport for that rate.

Excellent
GGuest UserBeautiful inn/Historic house walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. Very nice proprietors who accommodated my family of four and recommended great restaurants. Rooms are filled with antiques and it feels as if you are staying in a friend's guest suite. Reception area has complimentary snacks and tea/coffee and additional honor system food and drink for sale with a credit card reader.
JJINYINGThe location of the hotel is OK, next to the ferry terminal, the view outside the hotel is good, breakfast at your own expense, very general, the lobby is bar-style, drinking mainly, not suitable for parents, suitable for people who like to drink a bar, the hotel does not provide drinking water, We rushed to the nearby supermarket to buy drinking water, and deducted a deposit of 250 knives a day. It should be convenient for those who like to drink. We booked a sea view room, but it is still different from the sea view room on Ctrip. The slanting window edge, crowded in the corner of the window to see the seascape, there is no space for two people to sit, and in the Ctrip platform reservation, before leaving the store to pay a 35 knives, saying that the third-party platform did not count Hotel accommodation costs, this little ninety-nine makes people feel very bad! ! For the first time in my life, I encountered this weird situation! Friendly reminder: In fact, there are similar and more square view hotels on both sides of the hotel! After visiting a circle, I found out that I regret it!
GGuest UserA friend and I stayed at the Newport Harbor and Marina Hotel.
We choose a room overlooking the water and marina.
What a beautiful view. Really helped with the Winter Blues.
The location is awesome, so close to tons of shops, restaurants, and easy walking.
The pool was so refreshing.
Wish the restaurant and lounge was open for dinner, but hopefully that will change in the near future.
All in all, would definitely go here again.
GGuest UserWe've been coming to the Hotel Viking for the Audrain Concours for the last year. We can't wait to come back next Fall. We love everything about the hotel - the hotel itself, the restaurant, the rooms but most of all we LOVE the staff. From beginning to end our experiences have been wonderful and sooo much fun!! The front desk staff, the valets, the wait staff and bartenders and the bellmen are welcoming and friendly. We have breakfast and afternoon and night-time coffee, dessert and drinks at the restaurant and lobby bar. Hyechong, Sammy, Laura, Matthew and Kelsy took such good care of us all weekend, as did the front staff and valet staff. The hotel is beautiful and it's seriously the best location in town. We park the care and walk everywhere and take the trolley too. We spend 4 nights each fall with you and it's one of the best trips we take. The Hotel Viking cares about their guests and wants to ensure they have the best experience. They check in with you as you come and go and they cannot do enough for you! We highly recommend the Hotel Viking!!
