The hotel had my name incorrectly spelled when posting on the welcoming board and by the room hotel door, such a detail was overlooked is mildly offensive IMHO and the staffs weren’t apologizing when I mentioned it. They are very strict in check out time. So don’t be late. The toilet wasn’t working properly on the morning of my checkout time. The breakfast was average for a ryokan style. I booked a single room but the hotel has received information that I booked a double so the checkin staff didn’t know what to do, such inflexible Japanese way. Finally he said they’ll prepare 2 sets of breakfast for me tomorrow 😢🤗😀😂. The good thing about this hotel is they keep the luggage after you check out and the location is walkable to Nikko attraction (about 10 minutes) near the bus stop from Nikko station (5 minutes hilly walk to hotel/ryokan).

Three generations of parents and children (child 10 years old) stayed here for one night in mid-May. The conditions for this Nikko trip were to have a private open-air bath, a private bathroom in the guest room, and a relaxing Japanese-style room. The bedding in the room felt new and I was able to sleep comfortably, and the unit bath was also clean. The Toshogu area is not far away and can be reached on foot or by bus. When I used it, there were only two other guests. I was able to relax and enjoy the bath without meeting anyone in the public bath. Dinner and breakfast were also served in a private dining room, so you could relax. Two adult women were full from the local Kaiseki meal with beer. The handmade tofu and yuba were delicious. Honestly speaking, I wish they would add one item for children to the children's menu instead of removing a few items from the adult menu. There was a group of elementary school students on a school trip, but the dining and bathing areas were separate. The staff at the inn often worried about this, but it didn't bother us at all. We received warm hospitality during our stay.

Our room was spacious enough for a tatami floor mat room with a veranda. The room had a private bath/shower room and a separate toilet room in the unit. I had 3 foam pads for my bedding as just one makes my back hurt. They had plenty of foam pads in the closet. They have public bath on the 3rd floor for men and women. There's an indoor bath and an outdoor bath. Both dinner and breakfast meals were pretty good. Staff were very friendly and spoke limited English but understood all the necessary communications. The price was on sale when I booked it, so it was much cheaper in February, but this price may not stay for long. Overall, this ryokan was worth the visit and good value.

The customer service at check-in and dinner was very good and the staff were very friendly. The open-air bath and the room were clean. However, there was no makeup remover in the women's bathroom and no cotton pads. Please note that there are no irons available for rent. There was a hair treatment. The yukata in the room was wrinkled, but the haori was warm. I could see the view from my room, but I was a little disappointed that I couldn't see anything at night because of the double windows. For dinner and breakfast, you can enjoy Nikko's specialties without having to go out to eat.

My husband and I stayed here as a couple and ate both breakfast and dinner in a private room, so we could hear some noise from the people around us, but it was nice to be able to eat slowly. It was a room where you could hear the flow of the river and feel nature. There is Jakko Falls in the mountains behind the inn, and there is a shrine nearby, giving it a majestic appearance. I think it's a hidden gem.
