Nikko Station Hotel Building2

Nikko Station Hotel Building2 ★★★

📍 Matsubarachō, 17-4, Nikko

"Choosing this hotel for our trip to Nikko was a great decision. The price was perfect for someone on a regular budget. The hotel was clean, and its location near Tobu Nikko Station was fantastic, about 300 meters if you follow the right navigation. My navigation kept changing directions after I got off the train, so I had to ask a local shop owner for directions, and then it was easy to find. Just walk a few steps down the small road past the post office, and you're there. The hotel offers free breakfast to all guests, and it's quite good! The room was clean, and the view from the window was lovely, with mountains and clouds, very picturesque! There's also a large supermarket across the street where you can buy delicious and reasonably priced sashimi."

Fairfield by Marriott Tochigi Nikko ★★★

📍 1541-3 Tokorono, Nikko

"Pleasant stay. Hotel is kind of near top of the hill. There’s a pantry by the lobby and also a dining table. Coffee bean machine which is great. There is no restaurant for breakfast. Have to use coupon to redeem breakfast from reception. Japanese breakfast, cold. But there is a food truck outside the hotel which is convenient for hot breakfast like toast. So far room is cozy and water shower pressure is good. Some stains on the wall in the toilet."

"Love this small hotel, it's view is facing the lake. Location very near to the bus station . Room is clean bed is traditional bed, quite a big room. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a surprise 6 course fine dinning , breakfast was good too. Love the onsen after our hike . Will definitely recommend to our friends ."

Nikko Senhime Monogatari
9.4 (80 reviews)

Nikko Senhime Monogatari ★★★★

📍 6-48 Yasukawacho, Nikko

"The hotel is very well located at the foot of the temples. The Japanese-style rooms are a good size and very comfortable (table, armchairs, etc.). Drawback: the bathroom is outdated. The staff is obsequious but remarkably inefficient. My key had fallen into the onsen's laundry basket. I reported it: I was forbidden from leaving the hotel until the key was found, but it took them an hour to find it... an hour wasted that I could have spent sightseeing. Instead of helping me, their comment was: "Look better!" The kaseiki meals are designed for Asian palates. Nato at breakfast and grilled eel are definitely not for the faint of heart. But it's worth trying for the more adventurous. It's a shame the presentation left so much to be desired. Where is the attention to detail that is so typical of Japanese cuisine? The quality of the ingredients (especially the raw fish) was good. The onsen is pleasant with several indoor and outdoor pools. There's an outdoor relaxation area with a view of the mountains. A pleasant starting point for walks. The bridge is 500m away, and the Kanmangafuchi chasm is 1km away. The bus stop is 50m away. Thankfully, as the hotel shuttles to the train station are infrequent. A hotel with many advantages, but one that's resting a bit on its past glory."

Shelter Garden Nikko Hotels in Nikko

"The hotel is nestled in the mountains, a 10-minute drive from Nikko Station. The lobby and restaurant boast artistic design, perfect for photo ops. From the observation deck, you can gaze out over the mountains and waterfalls, where a white waterfall hangs amidst the lush greenery. The scenery is even more stunning during fall foliage season! Breakfast and dinner can be reserved according to your itinerary; the breakfast is quite standard (Figure 3). The most impressive part was the Western-style dinner. The comfortable setting, fresh ingredients, meticulously prepared, and beautifully presented, rivaled anything found at a Michelin-starred restaurant. This meal alone was worth half the price of the room and a truly unexpected surprise!"

Kanaya Hotel Kinugawa Hotels in Nikko

Kanaya Hotel Kinugawa

"This amazing hotel is located in the heart of Kinugawa with views over the gorge and is a 15 minute drive to Nikko. On arrival there are staff to take your car and bags and to check you in which is a seamless experience. There is coffee and tea available on arrival while you wait. This occurs in a pleasant lounge overlooking the forested valley. Across from the lounge is a well appointed shop. We had room 212 for three nights which was a spacious room done in traditional Japanese style. Although plainly decorated it had a very authentic feel and design. The room had a nice balcony but this could not easily be used as the afternoons were hot. There was minimal view from this room limited to trees and forested hillside and not the river. Perhaps the higher floors would likely have a better view. Spacious bathroom with a separate toilet. Good shower but no external curtain or privacy screen available. Along with the Onsen being out in the open on the balcony we found this lacked privacy for our liking. There was excellent responsive air conditioning. The room rate includes free mini bar with beer and iced tea and water. Only negative was poor quality towels and tissues. All staff were extremely attentive and nothing is too much for them. Excellent Alacarte breakfast was brought directly to your table. You are offered a choice between Japanese and Western breakfast. Some options rotated each day. Apart from this the choice was limited to 3 types of eggs. Everything was quality. Included in the rate was half board dinner each evening. Whilst you are at dinner your futon bed is made up in your room complete with turn down service which was usually a snack for later in the evening. The meal is 2 plus hours and very Japanese but again absolute quality. After three nights it does feel excessive to be enjoying a lengthy multi course menu but we did get to experience many meals that we would not normally try. The attention to detail went so far as having different crockery for each course. Some of these were very artistic. Overall this is an amazing one off experience although you do pay for the privilege."

Kinugawa Grand Hotel Yume No Toki

"The Kinugawa Yume no Ki Grand Hotel offered an outstanding overall experience. From the moment I entered the lobby, I was greeted by meticulous and attentive service. The staff were friendly and professional, and communication was seamless. The guest rooms were spacious and comfortable, with a warm Japanese-style ambiance that created a relaxing resort atmosphere. The environment was also kept impeccably clean. The onsen facilities were comprehensive, with both indoor and outdoor baths offering unique features. The tranquil bathing space was perfect for relaxation. Dinner and breakfast were of high quality, with exquisite and delicious kaiseki cuisine in generous portions. The dining atmosphere was wonderful, and I highly recommend it for couples or families. I would definitely return if I have the chance."

"I really liked the hotel. The public onsen is super-large, even outdoors among the rocks. You can also book a private one. Dinner and breakfast weren't very good, unfortunately. We didn't find much to like. There are comparisons to be made. But the main problem here is the staff. As mentioned below, the staff isn't exclusively Japanese—no complaints there. Nice girls were at the counter in the morning, and a very nice man escorted us to the onsen. A couple of questions for the staff, who speak English very indistinctly, with an Indian accent. You should either use a translator or ask your colleagues for help. I had to ask several times to repeat the order."

Hatago Nagomi Hotels in Nikko

Hatago Nagomi

"I had a wonderful stay at Hatago Nagomi, and it was easily one of the most peaceful and scenic accommodations of my trip. The highlight was definitely the lake view from the room—waking up to such a serene and picturesque setting made the experience truly special. The room itself was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, blending traditional Japanese elements with modern comfort. The beds were comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was very relaxing, perfect for unwinding away from the busy city. The service was warm and attentive, and the staff were well-versed in English, which made it much easier to communicate and clarify the travel plans I had in mind. The onsen was the highlight of the stay. The hotel’s peaceful location near the lake adds to its charm, making it ideal for those looking to enjoy nature and a slower pace of travel. If there’s one thing to note, it’s that the hotel is a bit more secluded, so planning your transport and meals ahead of time would be helpful. Overall, Hatago Nagomi offers a unique and tranquil stay with beautiful views, great service, and a memorable atmosphere. I would highly recommend it, especially for anyone visiting the Nikko area."

"Location is about 12 mins walk from train station, quite a long walk. Hotel provides shuttle service at 300yen, which requires advance reservation. Dinner and breakfast are buffet style with a good spread. I booked a traditional style room and it has a nice view of the river. I enjoyed the hotel and onsen, very relaxing."

Kinugawa Onsen Hana No Yado Matsuya Hotels in Nikko

Kinugawa Onsen Hana No Yado Matsuya

"I visited Nikko to explore the areas around Tokyo during my trip! Nikko is apparently famous for its hot springs and yuba (tofu skin) cuisine. So, I stayed at Hananoyado Mitsuya, a hot spring hotel. We booked a stay that included both dinner and breakfast. Pros: All the staff members were incredibly friendly, and the service was excellent. The food was delicious and the portions were generous! They even prepared our futons for us during dinner, and the yukata (Japanese traditional garment) were free. Among all the amenities, I loved the hot springs the most. The water temperature wasn't too hot, and the outdoor bath, in particular, was absolutely beautiful! Being in the open-air bath, surrounded by trees and nature, listening to the sounds of the nearby stream, was incredibly relaxing! My travel companion and I even booked a private hot spring for one session, which was 3300 yen for 45 minutes. They also provided free transportation to Kinugawa-Onsen Station, where we needed to catch our express train. Additionally, there were various vending machines conveniently located throughout the property. Cons: Perhaps because I visited in winter, but our room was extremely cold. Even with the heating on its highest setting, it remained chilly. I think the large size of the room might have contributed to this. Also, the internet was slow. Although the hotel had Wi-Fi, it often disconnected or had trouble connecting. Even using mobile data was slow. Aside from these points, I was very satisfied! Especially the staff's service, the hot springs, and the meals were outstanding! 👍👍"

Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Kinugawa Kanko Hotel

"The hotel is a bit of a walk from the hot spring street, about ten minutes if you're not in a hurry. It's really popular, mostly with locals. The breakfast and dinner buffets are incredibly delicious, so good that we rushed back from sightseeing the next day just to enjoy dinner. Truly delicious~"

"Good location, but basic amenities. The hotel is very close to the train station and has a convenient supermarket nearby. A three-day stay was the perfect amount of time here to visit Nikko. However, the room is quite small, and the breakfast only includes basic options."

"Good hotel, right in front of the JR railway station and bus stop number 1 to the Nikko national park and beyond. Room was adequately sized and clean although slightly dated, which was not issue. Breakfast was quite basic. Service was warm and efficient. The availability of an onsen was a big advantage to soak away our fatigue from a long day of hiking"

"For those heading towards Yumoto Onsen or Chuzenji Onsen, get off at Anryagawa Station, the next stop after Shinbashi Station. It's just a two- or three-minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of attractions such as Toshogu Shrine and Shinbashi Bridge. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped, and the service is attentive. Breakfast and dinner are both Japanese cuisine, a very filling kaiseki meal. Highly recommended if you're only staying one night in Nikko."

"20 minutes walk uphill from the city. Really not a big deal but it seems some people are avoiding it for this reason. They have some shuttle to and from the city in the middle of the day. Green terrace restaurant just next to the hotel also have shuttle service back to the city if needed. Bathtub on the balcony is a nice addition (although it views the main parking lot) , but the public bath is nice enough that you won't really need it. No laundry room, service felt limited given the price."
