Bestwood Lodge Hotel

Set in lovely grounds this imposing building is full of history but like some many hotels of this age needs a big face lift. The only modernised area I came across was the toilets just off reception. The Main bar area with leather bound (not certain if faux?) and chesterfields is a lovely place in which to sit and relax with a drink. Looking up there is a balcony which is walked along to reach the bedrooms thereby offered a different perspective when looking down. I booked a king room with breakfast and asked if could have a nice view, and was told there were only a couple of rooms with poor views anyway so I need not worry?! Well the room we had number 14 had four small windows looking out on to the rear of the hotel. And the view included a heavily wooded area of wheelie bins - so much for the view; in hindsight we should have asked for another room. The first morning the breakfast was a 'help yourself' and all of the food was just warm - not hot. The coffee poured from a jug was also only warm. However on the second morning my full english was cooked to order and very tasty, but again the coffee was only warm. This was remedied when I asked a waitress if she would change it. The room was spacious though and the bed comfy, shower adequate and tea and coffee facilities acceptable. Staff were helpful and generally cheerful. Lastly it is no longer run by Best Western. A very interesting place to stay if visiting Nottingham and not too far to drive in to the town.

The Tudor House Hotel

Me and my partner booked to stay here for a night as there were no other hotels that were affordable last minute. The hotel stunk really bad and it looked like a crack house as soon as you walk in. I didn’t even expect a ‘nice’ hotel as it was cheaper than the rest however this hotel should not even be fit for business. The hotel room had blood/ some other stains all over the place. It looked like mould was in our room and there were cracks everywhere. The window wouldn’t even shut, the whole room was absolutely filthy and that is an understatement, it was completely unhygienic I thought I was going to catch a disease just from entering the room. Me and my partner knew instantly we would ask for a refund and needed to leave. I didn’t even want to sit on the bed. There were people loitering around taking drugs in and outside the premises. Hotel also houses homeless people btw which they don’t tell you. To make it worse, the woman on the front desk refused to refund me due to entering the room- I pointed out all the health hazards and fobbed me off saying the manager was going to ring me tomorrow. I had to chase them up with multiple calls before I even spoke to the manager. Still refused refund and told me I had to try get one via lastminute.com, who then told me that the hotel should refund me. Never did. To be honest I wasn’t even bothered about getting the money back I was just angry they’re actually still allowed open for business considering the actual horror state of this hotel. Better of sleeping on the streets. Reporting to trading standards.

An amazing stay at the doubletree!! We love this hotel, the best place to stay in Nottingham. We spent several evenings in the hotel bar, Robin and LJ were always willing to look after us, give recommendations, and go the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience. We will definitely be back!!
Premier Inn Nottingham North (Daybrook)

I visit this Premier Inn for one night almost every week. Most of the staff here are helpful during my check in, in the room allocation and for sorting out anything that’s not quite right. I have to especially mention Sylvia who is undoubtedly one of the best staff covering the reception desk that I have seen in hotels worldwide. She very quickly understands if you bring an issue to her and makes every effort to sort it out ASAP. When I’m checking in it is a pleasure to see her on the desk.
