Such a mixed bag with this hotel. Here are the pros and cons: Pros = amazing midcentury architecture; situated on a gorgeous pond with swans, ducks, bridges, walking paths, fountains, waterfalls, a forest, and beautiful landscaping; plenty of free parking plus valet parking; my room had a juliet balcony with a forest view and it looked to be recently updated (like in the last 5 or so years); large bathrooms; good-sized gym; amazing indoor swimming pool with stunning architecture; there are onsite hotels, in-room dining, vending and ice machines; my king bed room had a nice desk and seating area; very nice assortment of art hanging in the hallways (not your typical bland hotel wall art); check-in and check-out were fast and easy. Okay but here are all the cons: the rugs in the halls and rooms were all stained and dirty, coming up in places, with exposed threads and just generally looked sad and worn. They really need to update the carpeting throughout the hotel; although there are restaurants with great views of the lake and surroundings, the food choices are limited and boring, and the food quality is extremely mediocre; the room service/in-room meal I ordered came in a take-out container with plastic cutlery, instead of on a tray with real dishes, etc. and my salad had a little plastic cup of obviously bottled, crappy "Italian" dressing - very sad; also the free parking lot is in bad condition (needs to be repaved) and quite a walk away from the hotel entrance, which you have to go up stairs to access (i.e. it is not wheelchair/stroller/handicapped accessible). In general, I would say this hotel has some really nice things about it but seriously needs refurbishing and needs BIG improvement in the food area. But of course, in Oak Brook (the surrounding suburb) there are a myriad of amazing restaurants to choose from, so as long as you have a car, you won't go hungry.
