The Literary Man Obidos Hotel

It is a fascinating hotel. Friendly staff, superb restaurant and absolutely out of the ordinary interior design. We will return.

A haven for book lovers.

The staff are great and very helpful. The dining room / bar is a very cool space. Our room was very small, with a carpet well past it’s prime.

Disappointed! Photos on website are deceiving. Property is a beautiful building that is run down, old carpets, painted bathroom floor is peeling, dirty. Found an old ticket dated 1-2 September under the bed and it is 31 December! The bathroom “door” is a flimsy curtain. Mattress was uncomfortable. The miniature “safe” is from the previous century and not bolted to the wall, so any criminal can carry it out of the room. The fridge is also a miniature for only 3 cans. Parking is a problem as you need to find street parking somewhere! Breakfast! Well the fruit was old and not fit for human consumption, pineapple was discoloured and apples soft and old. Not a great breakfast. As a VIP gold member we did not get our free bottle of wine and upon check out we queried it. Only the did they give us the wine bottle. Not recommended!

QUARTOS: Roupa de cama com bichos castanhos a vaguearem pelas almofadas e lençóis que obrigou.à mudança de quarto; equipamentos dos quartos velhos e mal mantidos; sem produtos de higiene de qualidade, toalhas finas e manchadas; carpetes do chão manchadas e sujas; madeiras de má qualidade e mau cheiro; SERVIÇO de Restaurante: razoável e simpatico apesar de muito lento SERVIÇO de Recepção: medíocre; após ter mudado de quarto por causa dos bichos na cama a primeira observação na manhã seguinte foi “Quem vai fazer o pagamento do jantar?” quando o pagamento já estava associado ao quarto; Chegaram a sugerir que os bichos vieram com algum hóspede porque os quartos são sempre verificados; ZONAS COMUNS DO HOTEL: apesar de visualmente agradável pelos imensos livros expostos as carpetes das escadas e corredores dos quartos encontram-se imundas, há entradas de água pelo teto do corredor; não há acessos a deficientes nem elevadores que ajudem pessoas mais idosas a aceder aos pisos superiores com a sua bagagem; LOCALIZAÇÃO: o hotel não tem zona de estacionamento e como tal o carro tem de ser estacionado onde houver lugar nas ruelas da vila que são empedradas e que dificultam o transporte das malas principalmente se não forem malas tipo trolley; Não é um hotel family friendly para ir com crianças; o restaurante sim é.

We love the concept, but it just isn’t a great stay in reality. The rooms are so musty smelling and moist, there were stains on our sheets, the Wi-Fi only worked in the lobby, and there was no plug so we couldn’t get enjoy the bathtub. The food was great and the idea is lovely, but I was very uncomfortable staying here because of how wet it smelled and felt in our room.
