My two children and I recently stayed here for 10 nights. Having worked in hospitality myself for a few years my expectations are quite high but realistic. I have visited Turkey many times over the last 25 years & I have noticed many changes in recent visits. The cleanliness isn't what it used to be both in the resort and the hotels, also unfortunately some of the younger generation of Turks are not as attentive and helpful as the Turks were in years gone by, but that seems to be the way the world is these days unfortunately. Pros:- Fred - such a talented photographer, he captured the children and I beautifully. The entertainment team - Bedo he is a credit to the hotel!, the beach party he organises on a Sunday is a must, we had a fabulous time. The Gozleme lady - she works tirelessly and makes the most tasty gozleme Food - the food wasn't the best but there was a lot of variety (people complaining need to open their minds and try new dishes!), we particually enjoyed the salads, pide, soups, and some of the desserts. (More vegetarian options would have been great). Cons:- The pool bar area / drinks. As mentioned in other reviews the pool bar smells terrible!, it's a stale milk / vomit smell - it seriously needs a deep clean with a lot of bleach! Water machine - AVOID, its sat in the sun all day and the staff are filling some of the water bottles with tap water!! (I've seen this mentioned in other reviews and when I asked the bar staff if it was tap water they said yes!) this resulted in 3 days of sickness and diarrhea for the children and I!!, I spoke to other guests that were also suffering / ill while we were there. I raised the issue with the Jet 2 rep and the hotel manager, we were given bottled water and polite understanding but little else!. Cleanliness of rooms- the housekeeping ladies are lovely but there cleaning standards are not thorough enough. Cramped pool area - too many sunbeds pushed close together and very slippy! Overall we enjoyed our stay, I'm very open minded and can let the little issues go, no hotel is perfect but improvements are needed at Montebello in relation to hygiene standards and attention to detail / attentiveness of staff.
