A wonderful location for families, so much space, excellent service and friendly staff. Will book tours for you too. Ostriches on-site were a bonus as well as eating them at the evening meal! Our son left his book there and they kindly sent on to our next location. Highly recommended.

The Schoeman family has owned the land between Oudtshoorn & Cango Caves for 8 or 9 generations! Owner Piet is now the largest ostrich farmer in South Africa - with up to 25,000 own ostriches. His German-speaking wife Laura has lovingly renovated the Berluda Farmhouse & Mountain Manor in country house style - an oasis of peace. Mountain Manor was wonderful! Esp. for stressed city dwellers - including a mind-change in no time at all. Here, work is far away. Especially recommended for families: the unusual meerkat tour in an open car! Safari feeling! Also: the tour to the ostriches. And 5 pools invites you to swim or cool down. For wine lovers, the Karusa winery - just 1000 meters away - has some surprisingly fine wines to offer. Insider tip: the restaurant "De Kombuys" - fine Wagyu beef & wonderful Chardonnay (a bit too expensive, I think). In short: Two days at Berluda are a must, longer is of course always possible

We had rented a cottage for one night. The cottage was spacious and clean but I felt it was dated. You are out in the sticks being well away from shops and facilities so plan ahead. The breakfast was really good and we decided to do the ostrich farm tour with Jakob. We found it brilliant seeing the process of ostrich farming from egg to a full grown adult , my wife loved holding one of the newly born chicks-a great experience.

We stayed two nights here and did the ostrich tour. Very infomative with enthusiastic guide Jaku! We had booked the Meerkat tour as well but it was cancelled since the meerkats had decided to move about a week earlier and were at the moment nowhere to be found. This was a dissapointment but does, according to the staff, not happen on a regular basis. Jaku had gone looking for them every day and it was probable that he would find them in the near future. We stayed in a spacious house with a lovely patio. Because the restaurant was closed we were offered a "do-it-yourself-bbq-pack" to cook in the patio. The wood for the fire was a bit wet but we finally got a good meal. The place has a nice pool. As a bonus a big turtle came visiting while were were at the pool - cool!

Unfortunately we stayed only for one night, but there is so much more to see ... the staff was very friendly and we had a unique tour on the austriche farm with our guide Jaco vanWyk . He made a great tour for us and our childrens. They liked it very much ... . After taking a great breakfast next mornung, we had to leave, but will come again for sure !! Thank you all !

Great accommodation, delicious ostrich steak from the Braai. Very friendly staff. Meerkat tour was brilliant despite meerkats being very protective of one another and not moving around much. The two tour guards were magnificent.

Ideal lodging to immerse yourself in the spirit of the little Karoo. Located on a family ostrich farm, the hosts offer a 360 degree of experiences in addition to offering a comfortable and pleasant place to stay. The experiences range from visiting the ostrich farm, to tasting ostrich meat (if you take the meal offered when you book), to a small morning Safari to see the Meerkats. The place has two swimming pools, ideal for cooling off at the end of the day. In short, the location is breathtaking with its mountains and the hosts offer very comfortable accommodation in addition to taking great care. We highly recommend!

Very nice location in the countryside, quiet and peaceful. The room was clean and well appointed. The breakfast was buffet style with a good selection. The evening menu was limited two two dishes, so we went to another restaurant on the second evening. There was a power outage for a few hours ( a way of life in SA, but we had no information about this. Not a problem really but we wondered if the farmhouse had a backup generator which could have been used. Overall, a wonderful stay.
