What a disgusting place. Used as a hotel for men who come from France in boats. We were shocked at the state of the place. Filthy dirty and unwelcoming. Whatever went on here is not nice. It needs knocking down. We couldn't believe thst Shearings would use this hotel.

The esplanade Hotel in paigntion is in a good location. It is near to the train and bus station and near to the town, harbour and seafront. That is where the positives end. The hotel exterior is visibly deteriorating. There are signs of poor maintenance everywhere. Flaking paint, rotting wood, old windows, propped open fire escapes etc. There is clearly no reason to stay within the hotel as what appears to be the current clientel (apparently exclusively young &male) sit around outside the hotel playing with smart phones, smoking and leering at young women who are walking by, making the whole area feel very uncomfortable. This hotel is by far the least desirable looking of any in paignton and there have been news stories in local media reporting that even non paying 'guests' are disgusted with the food that is on offer. The hotel is so bad that the local community are currently 'reassured' by the platitude that there is "24/7 security" at the hotel. Whether that is to protect the hotel or protect the local community from the current residents of the hotel is unclear. No other hotel in the area needs this. In a nutshell....paignton is a great place to visit....but, stay somewhere else.

From the outside it looks awful. Wouldn’t dare go in there.. The place should be wiped of the face of the lovely seafront. Paignton is lovely but just don’t chose this dive.. You will regret it……………..

I have tried to book a weekend using several dates from now up up to and including December 2023, it's all completely fully booked for ever. There's a lot of it about. Good Luck with that lot, you must be desperate.

This hotel is disgusting it is filthy not maintained and. U will be bitten by bed begs I got bitten really bad on my back see photos Our room was absolutely disgusting and a disgrace we were there for 3 nyts and not. Once did house keeping clean our room it wasn't even cleaned when we arrived I reported this to 3 different nyt porters the night porter on Thursday nyt even had to go get me towels because housekeeping couldn't be bothered It's an absolute disgrace I wrote formal complaints to the hotel demanding a refund they tried to call me a lier and refused I've now taken this further this hotel needs shutting down and fumigation The housekeeping staff all need sacking immediately they are clearly not doing there jobs every morning they were sat outside the front drinking and smoking The staff have rooms at the hotel so sit and get drunk at nyt we witnessed this ourselves they actually make u feel unwelcome and intimidate u And the nyt porter went and helped. Himself to alcohol when he was supposed to be on shift then sits on the sofa with his feet up watching TV It's like an. Episode of faulty towers AVOID AT ALL COSTS FOR YOUR OWN HEALTH!!

Staff were rude and entitled on approach. The rooms were dirty and had no privacy. The bathrooms were uncomfortably small, this hotel is not as advertised. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location.

Arrived a little earlier than expected, it wasn’t clear where we could park so I went in to ask….I was checked in by a really friendly guy on reception. It was £6 to park for the night and was told anywhere in front but not the coach parking spaces. From outside the hotel looks very tired , the “Bay” part of the hotel name was missing along with lots of paint on the steps etc… We were pointed in the direction of the lift to go to our room on the second floor. On arrival the room was clean, apart from the heart confetti we came across. We struggled to find sockets to charge our phones and use hair tongs. It would appear there are just two sockets available to use - one for the telly and one for the kettle. To have the fan, that was provided, on meant we couldn’t charge our phones, book the kettle, watch tv or dry hair without making sacrifices! Other sockets were not accessible as they were behind the bed where the lamps were plugged in and the bed would need pulling out. The bathroom was clean but the shower was something else…..it felt like a lifetime for the shower to warm through, I actually thought we had no hot water and when it did it was scolding and took a while to get the water to cool back to an adequate temperature. Additionally, there wasn’t anywhere to put your towel close by whilst using the shower and nowhere for your clothes to go - maybe a small table in the empty space by the shower? ( room 214) A telltale sign of very poor water pressure was when we were unable to flush the toilet twice in a row! We decided we’d use the stairs rather than the lift to go out…..no wonder they point you in the direction of the lift, the corridors are very long, narrow and depressing, the floorboards made so much noise! Anyone that used the lift during the night meant we were woken by the floorboards! The breakfast was lovely! Reason for 3 stars, the food was hot and there was plenty of choice, the staff were very attentive offering tea and coffee. We would’ve spoken to reception at check out but they were busy talking trains with another guest, so we just dropped our key and left. Tips to the hotel- open the bar so guests can sit and have a drink when they arrive, we only seen the bar open in the evening when we came back from eating and having a few drinks out, elsewhere. Get on and refurb the hotel- you had months during lockdown….dated wallpaper and plaster hanging off the walls just isn’t attractive for the price paid. Creaky floorboards, really? We’re not taking the odd floorboard, we’re talking all the way through the second floor between the stairs and the lift! Get some sockets in the rooms or offer guests multi socket extension leads. Your staff are a credit to you, every member of staff was friendly and helpful. We wouldn’t come back however without the hotel being updated, your not a budget hotel but everything within your hotel says you should be.

We booked here as I needed a break from my 3 disabled children.. it was the hottest day of the year and was told we couldn't have a fan in our room, there was one little window at the top that we could open but it was so hot , we had to keep showering in cold water as it was so bad in the room, in the end we slept in the car for 2 hours then went back into the hotel managed to sleep for 40 mins to be woken up to someone slamming doors in the hotel and a man in the hotel behind dragging plastic crates down the pavement at 5am.. was a break at all was a nigh**are. dirty tea area in the room didn't see this until 5am when I went to make a cup of coffee as I lifted the cups there was tea that wasn't cleaned up and all in the cups.. I've asked for another stay at the hotel to see if its any better for us as we are always travelling to paignton but havnt yet compensated for our nigh**are night as yet, and no reply from the manager..
