A very beautiful castle hotel. The dinner was also very good. It is worth staying here to feel the history of the castle and leave it with such grandeur. However, the rooms are a bit old.

We have been very lucky to stay here twice before. 2012 “Amazing “ 2018 “ not so good “ Just home from our stay : October 2024 “sadly won’t be going back “ Very disappointed 🥺 the sad condition of our room 106 also Very dated and bathroom not in a good condition. Have raised this with the staff before leaving. Very limited tea/ coffee room tray . Breakfast menu : be mindful of extra charges on the breakfast list . Meal and drinks in the 2020 brasserie felt over priced also a 7.5% service charge . Both nights wedding guest and music NOISE till early hours of the morning both outside the building and in hotel corridors . Staff were very helpful and apologetic .

Terrible, it difficult to know where to start. Check in was chaotic, staff unhelpful and rude. Room was awful, window wouldn’t stay open, floor creaked so very badly and could so easily be rectified, the carpet was worn, the mattress dipped so badly and the room smelt of food from the restaurant as it was just by the extraction unit. The restaurant was cold and felt like we were sitting in a corridor. When we did go to bed there was a wedding going on just down the stairs from our room 101 ( very apt to be honest), almost felt the disco was actually in our room. Breakfast was quite good but we did go down early because of the dreaded wedding party. On check out the receptionist just expected us to pay the bill without us first seeing a copy and added on gratuities regardless. Extremely presumptuous I feel. I was expecting so much more from what was such a grand establishment. When I emailed with regard to all the issues that had arisen I expected the management to have the curtesy to reply how wrong I was. I very much doubt I will have a return visit.

After having no entry to the actual castle because of a wedding or warnings - then the evening meal being an absolute disaster and parts of the building closed with no reply from the owners for our £300 + experience of basically nothing its very hard to give any positive review - no discount to return and retify the issues no reply from my email and no discount for the awful time we had ....very poor from the owners - my only advice is to ask if a function is on as you basically get zero service and the main restaurant may not be open as we were informed of zero info beforehand....shame it could of been wonderful

Unfortunately our Winter Deal was not as we expected. On approaching the hotel we were impressed and looking forward to an unusual stay in an unusual venue. However, our room (107) is dated; dirty in places and needs lots of repair tbh. Uncomfortable bed and shower over bath difficult to use. Shower screen was filthy! Frayed carpet between bedroom and bathroom. Window wouldn't stay open. Once unpacked in the afternoon we took a walk around the grounds and had a drink in the Wine Cellar which was nice. Dinner, however would disappoint again! Food was good, however we had to ask for our table to be cleaned when we were sat down! Yes a dirty table....basic!! We ordered wine and one of our glasses had a chip out of the base! We ordered fried chicken and soup for starters and the soup was served with butter and no bread roll !! Pointed out to waitress and one arrived later but again a basic and unnecessary error! Breakfast was also a complete disappointment. Cold offerings were cereals + croissants and pastries + yoghurt + fresh fruit salad + sliced ham and sliced cheese. The cereal station was messy when we arrived. Should be kept on top of by staff. We were seated by the wine rack/ display and noted a layer of dust on the surfaces!! Hot offerings are to order however some are only available by paying extra!!! We have had better choices at lower star establishments than we got here!! Guests wait a while but our hot food was OK once it arrived. Guests were however congregating at the top of the stairs waiting to enter the breakfast room (you have to book a time slot for breakfast) and because of the stair lift was hard to get past. This is a Health and Safety issue!! On check out not asked if enjoyed our stay. As previous guests of Nunsmere Hall our expectations were high BUT we were very very disappointed indeed!!! There is no comparison between the two establishments!!

Have stayed here before so thought we knew what to expect…sadly disappointing this time. First “grumble” was that, in advance of our visit I contacted the Hotel as I have mobility problems. I was told I would be allocated an accessible room but on arrival found 8 very steep steps between the lift and our corridor (room 107). In fairness I managed the steps with a degree of difficulty but do feel that at the time of me asking. I should have been asked for more details as it was a real struggle. I do appreciate fully accessible rooms are in short supply but a little customer service does a lot to avoid disappointment. I’m really sad to say that breakfast was really disappointing compared to last time. Although there was an adequate continental the cooked. Breakfast was meagre and stone cold. We had been told we could only have breakfast at 8am and were the first in the restaurant but mushrooms were absolutely cold. I think you could upgrade to a larger cooked breakfast for an extra £5 but not really the point. Next (and most significant) was our room. It was a bit tired but I expected that from a previous visit but was actually very dirty. I am allergic to house dust and, on getting into bed, started wheezing very badly. I discovered the reason which was the bedside table which was thick in weeks of dust. Please see picture. Finally, when checking out they tried to charge us again for food that should have been included. In summary we were on a deal which we’d paid £119 for but was marketed at being worth £300. It definitely wasn’t worth much more than we paid, £40 per couple for food plus you can book a room for £95 but I wouldn’t have minded that if the room hadn’t been so dirty. On checking out I mentioned the issues and they said they bring the dirty room to housekeepings attention but there was no interest in how they could make this right. We don’t need “freebies” but it would have been nice if we’d felt they cared that we were disappointed. Hopefully future guests will have a better experience but that does little to make up for our disappointment.

Booked a mid week 1 night break through Secret Escapes. Beautiful location. Staff friendly and helpful.Room was good but looked tired- in need of decoration. Evening meal on the Brasserie was good but choice was restricted due to the non availability of a significant main course. Breakfast was good but hot choice could have been hotter. Buffet choice was limited and was restricted due to it not being replenished regularly. These are minor points .
