The Folk Union music evenings in the Nelson bar on Tuesdays are a great way to experience Celtic folk music in Penzance. A great atmosphere in a bar that dates back to before the Battle of Trafalgar. They also serve the cheapest St. Austell's beer I found. Why not check it out.

Popped in for an evening meal and live music 23rd December then back again today for an excellent Sunday Roast. Food was fantastic as always and my picky eater needs were catered to without fuss! Our favourite place for a proper homestyle Sunday lunch. Staff all friendly and accommodating.

The best hotel for us. Montol and Mazey and you make us so welcome. Well done again Jo, you are a star. Yes the building is very old and aging a bit but our room was freshly decorated with a fab view of the shenanigans on Montol. We love you and we managed to get down for breakfast on the second day and our vegetarian needs were catered for. Thank you chef ! If you want boring and clinical don't bother, if you want fun and good old fashioned comfort give them a try! Your greatest fans Jack and Deb xx

Room not clean, thick dust on wardrobe and extractor fan was disgusting probably never cleaned kettle dirty, not worth £110 for the night, broken plug on skirting board one of the worst I've stayed in, so if you want a clean room for the night find another hotel.

we stayed there for a one night stay , Our room had curtains that were dragging along the floor & hanging of the rail ,the view out of the windows which were filthy was like a building site with pigeons every were. the light in the bathroom over the mirror did not work , would never stay there again .

Great quirky hotel in the middle of town, which is ideal for exploring! Lovely bar and an awesome breakfast. Lovely room on the first floor with plenty of space and a large en-suite. The Car Park is around the back and I would recommend getting there as early as possible as there's not too many spaces!

It was a really bad experience. We couldn't check in by 9pm due to the tube strike, so we called the hotel in advance to communicate and agreed with the hotel that we would arrive at the hotel at 1am and someone would be waiting for us to check in for us. But after we arrived ( at around 12:40 midnight) there was no one in the hotel lobby when we arrived and the door was locked. We were forced to sleep on the streets that night in freezing temperatures. The second day they mentioned that they waited until 12:00 then gone, but the thing is, they promised us to wait until 1:00am,that’s why we didn’t do any plan B for it, and when they left, they did not informed us about that there is no one gonna be there, which cause us to wait in front of their entrance until 3:00am to see if there is anyone still coming. But they didn’t. After that we asked them for a refund, but they were unwilling.

I stayed one night at the hotel whilst walking the south west coast path. It would be easy to be critical of the hotel - the decor is very tired in areas, carpets are old and rooms basic and old fashioned. However, look beyond and for the price, location and facilities this is a very agreeable hotel. My shower room was clean and adequately equiped. The hotel has a large bar with bar food - the menu is basic and not pretending to be anything other than wholesome. I was there on a Saturday night and live entertainment was on (tribute band). Given I was in walking gear and neither dressed for anywhere upmarket, nor wanting to trawl the streets for somewhere to eat, the Union Hotel provided everything onsite - and at a very reasonable price. So thoroughly recommended, especially for walkers passing through Penzance!
