Baymont by Wyndham Peoria

We made a short-notice trip to the Peoria area and Baymont had the room size we needed for our family - a 4 doubles suite that sleeps 8. The room was reasonably priced and available for booking at the last minute. What pulled this up from 2 dots to 3 for me was the friendly staff. Everyone we interacted with was kind and professional. We checked in late Wednesday and checked out Thursday morning. This hotel was perfectly fine to sleep in for one night, midweek. I would not make this hotel a base for a vacation, a multi-night stay, or a business trip. The building is older and unfortunately was not built to last, showing signs of wear and some neglect. I don't fault the everyday staff; you can only do so much with a decaying building. The suite was on the 3rd floor. Since the elevator was out of service, we took the stairs. The third floor doors at the end of each hallway were wide open the entire time we were there. The first two floors of this hotel are exterior corridors only. We are not sure what would keep an intruder from any floor in this hotel. As others have mentioned, some of the sheets were stained and one mattress cover had some kind of crud on it. The sheets we slept on appeared laundered and changed from the previous guest. All the mattresses in our room were sealed and there was no evidence of bedbugs. The room and the bathroom were basically clean. We saw no leftover garbage, uncleaned surfaces, or visible dirt and grime. The toilets and tub appeared properly serviced. The room recently received new paint and carpet. However, there were some dings and marks on the recently repainted walls, and the vinyl floor in the bathroom area already showed age. The room needed more light. It felt like it was missing a lamp or an overhead light. The gray color scheme only made the room feel more dark. There was no in-room coffee maker. There was an iron and board, but the iron seemed broken and I gave up on using it. The AC was cold and worked well. I did see some ants crawling out of the unit, and the floor around one of the units had a noticeable dip in it. The shower pressure was outstanding. The tub, though, did not easily drain. We did not eat the breakfast; it is from 6-9 a.m. and we missed it. When I went to get coffee around 8 a.m., it appeared to be cereals and some items in hot wells. The coffee was a bit weak, but I like really strong coffee. We stayed midweek and everyone else at the hotel seemed to be there to rest, not party. It was quiet and seemed safe enough. The hotel is located in a little cluster of hotels just off the mall parking lot. It felt oddly secluded when driving up and when driving away.

Extended Stay America Suites - Peoria - North

This place is suitable for neither extended nor stay. It is not even a real hotel. On a scale 0 to 10 where 0 is spending the night on a park bench and 10 is getting pampered at a Ritz Carlton, I rate this place a 2. One notch above a dump. Let me explain: The Grab-n-Go breakfast they hype about is not much more than a basket of vending machine quality muffins, Dollar Store quality breakfast bars, warm watered down coffee, and check this out, Quaker Oatmeal packets with no bowls, cups, milk, or microwave to make oatmeal. The whole breakfast bar is about the same size as the end table in your bedroom, by your bed where you place your phone, watch and glasses as you turn of the light. Front desk service is below terrible. Very unprofessional both in behavior and attire didn't let me check in because she could not find my company's reservation authorization in her computer. I gave her a reservation number. No help. She said she wouldn't let me in unless I have a payment information in the system. I showed her a screen shot of my reservation which *clearly* states that my payment guarantee is in the system; her response: this means nothing to me unless I find it here. I ended up calling my work and get the credit card information again so I can be checked in. In the meantime I am waiting in the lobby soaking wet and tired after a full day work field work on a rainy and cold day and it doesn't even occur to her to say ”go ahead go to your room, relax, rest while I sort out why I can't see your payment information”. I have never met a hotel front desk staff who looks at their hotel's reservation confirmation and said ”this means nothing to me”. The rooms are very aged, out-of-date. There is kitchen but no microwave, no dishwasher. There are cabinets but no plates, glasses, pot and pans. Nothing, just bare cabinets. So my advice: The are way better options in Peoria.

East Peoria
This was the first time I have stayed at a hotel since the start of the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, I was a frequent traveler for work and leisure so I actually was looking forward to the hotel stay, The hotel is conveniently located near the downtown area, ******, and restaurants. It is right at the waterfront which could be really nice in the warm weather. I was greeted warmly by the hotel receptionist. She was very professional and informative. The lobby area and all public areas were extremely clean. Upon entering my room I was very impressed. Everything was sparkling clean and I did not any anxiety whatsoever about staying there. The housekeeper was in the hall when I arrived and also spoke. I left the room to retrieve more items from my vehicle. The housekeeper came to me asked me if the room met my specifications and if she could be of further service. Impressive indeed. I let her know everything was great and I appreciated her inquiring, Upon checkout, continental breakfast is available at the reception desk to go. There were selections of muffins, granola bars, fresh fruit, yogurt and coffee. You could have one or all. My only complaint has to do with some of the visitors. On two occasions, I saw people without masks, although it is clearly posted on the entrance door and the elevator area that masks are mandatory in the hotel, People were sitting in the lobby on one evening-none with masks-socializing. On the day of checkout, a guy was on the elevator without a mask and upon exiting the elevator promenaded around the lobby without a mask. I think this was very disrespectful of the other hotel guests who were abiding by the rules. I could only imagine that the young hotel staff would have a difficult time monitoring and enforcing the wearing of masks. As a practice, people who break rules are often defiant and the receptionist is not equipped to battle with that. How did I handle it, I made sure I had on my mask and provided protection for myself.

This hotel needs two separate ratings. The first one is for the staff. Every staff person I talked to was genuinely nice, helpful, and friendly. The staff is WONDERFUL. Five stars for the staff. The pantry in the lobby is nice and quite affordable. I used it a lot and appreciate that the pricing for items was fair. I didn't use the lending library of kitchen appliances but it looked like it had a lot of decent items that would be helpful for someone staying long-term. The rooms on the other hand are one star rooms right now. The bed and mattress are the absolute worst I've ever slept on, without a doubt. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I had back and neck problems the entire time I stayed here and for several days after. The mattresses are so incredibly old and worn out that they are sunken-in and offer absolutely no support. The rest of the room was decent and I had no complaints, but the mattresses are so bad that it ruins the entire experience. We ended up staying in Peoria longer than we had the room reserved, but decided not to extend our stay at this hotel simply because we couldn't sleep on the beds any longer. The staff tell me the hotel will be renovated this spring and I'm really glad to hear that. Once the renovations are done, I would gladly stay here again.

We stayed in rm 314. Pros - Room was clean. Bathroom tub/shower, floors, base of the toilet. Sink area, closet space. Rug was vacuumed well. Clean fridge (didn't open or use the microwave). Coffee fully stocked. No dust. Headboard even appeared to be wiped down (which I really appreciate and some hotel chains don't do regularly enough). Bedding was clean and had a light fresh scent. Nice tv, firm bed. Very comfortable. Breakfast area was good. A lot to choose from, good variety. They had proteins (boiled eggs, eggs cooked to fit on muffins and bacon) of course a large variety of carbs too. Customer service, check in, check out and breakfast attendant were all friendly. Nice area. Close to a lot, restaurants, shopping mall. Cons - No shampoo was in our room. Didn't notice it until the morning. I'm sure if I called the front desk they'd have no problem getting it to us. We had a little left in a travel size bottle in our bag. Just used what we had left and made it work for both of us. At 3:30am we heard an adult size person run down the hallway.
