Hotel Northbridge

Great location - close enough to the centre of Northbridge (about 5-10min walk) but away enough for a quiet night's sleep. Check-in and check-out was simple and brief. Reception staff were efficient and friendly. We stayed in a Deluxe King room with a spa. Room was spacious and clean (bed linen had some small black stains but that didn't bother us). Loved that the window opened for fresh air. Shower was over spa which was fine for us (if you have mobility issues I wouldn't recommend this room type). Toilet pipe was leaking which kept leaving a pool of water on the floor. Reception was great with handling this though - they said they'd get someone to look at it and offered to move us to another room. Breakfast was confusing - it was supposed to be included in our stay, but when we went down to the restaurant we found it was closed (due to COVID I believe, which is understandable). On our way down we noticed people receiving room service. This breakfast service wasn't explained to us upon check-in so we felt we missed out in this regard. Thankfully the cafes in central Northbridge were only a short walk away! All in all it was a great stay that certainly didn't break the bank. Would happily stay here again - just remember to ask about breakfast at check-in!

Malibu Apartments - Perth

I stayed there by myself for two nights in early November 2023. The code received by email on the day of arrival, is only needed to enter your apartment/unit. It's not necessary to open the front gate. When I approached another guest to ask how the gas oven and stove hot plates work. - He replied that, a clicker that is a lighter, is in one of the top drawers - to light the hot plates and oven cavity with. I contacted the manager about it, who replied to me by text message, to inform me that is how those appliances are turned on. - In addition to pressing a button, or turning a dial. One question I asked before my arrival, but did not receive an answer to, was that all cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and mugs are provided and kept in the kitchen drawers and cabinet. The only negatives during my brief stay: 1. The front wooden door didn't lock well. I had to keep turning the key clockwise or anti-clockwise to get the door to lock properly. 2. I think it was during the first night I was there, in bed at around 1 AM trying to sleep, when I suddenly heard the voice of a male guest either in the apartment/unit above me/mine, or outside. - His language sounded Chinese or Korean. This guest continued speaking loud enough for 15 to 30 minutes. So that was inconvenient and not pleasant. I thought staying in standard room accommodation of that price, that I would be much less likely to encounter that noise. Having previously stayed in hostels. - To my knowledge, noise there needs to be kept to a minimum from 10 PM. I know how hard it is to find decent accommodation without any or much bad reviews in Perth, that's not far from the CBD. If you're a single, solo traveller, I would advise using a car to transport groceries in. The walk from Woolworths (St George's Terrace) the larger of Woolworths two CBD stores to Malibu Apartments should take 36 minutes, with a distance of 2.5 km. The problem with using Google Maps when walking in Perth, is that it isn't always accurate and reliable. I brought over with me, a UBD printed pocket map of Perth city, as a alternative for navigation.

The place is okay but far from what is advertised. The room was cosy although not clean with soap from from the previous occupant still in the shower and dirty floors and sticky walls. The room is in need of some serious maintenance. Wardrobe would be useful if it had hangers. The hallway ‘kitchen’ has only a microwave, kettle, fridge, tea/instant coffee. No bowls or cutlery etc or breakfast cereal as advertised. Overall the place is quite loud due to zero sound proofing so anyone hoping to use said kitchen will wake up the whole place. Could get a nicer cleaner hostel for the same price, choose wisely:)

Great hostel! Stayed here for just shy of a week and had a great time! The facilities are really good, with one of the most feature-rich kitchens I've seen in a hostel (ovens and gas hobs... Unreal!). The common areas were large and plentiful, movie room, large dining room, pool etc. Couldn't ask for much more. Could imagine it'd be a great place for living longer term also, not just for the short term like myself. Loved the location, stones throw away from everything! 24 hour reception so I always felt safe and secure. Could not fault it! Stay here!

I booked this hostel for 3 nights and I stayed for 3 months. It's definitely the THE BEST HOSTEL IN PERTH ! the staff is amazing, so nice, so caring, so friendly, and so helpful! Charlie, the owner, even helps travelers to find jobs and is always making arrangements to satisfy everyone. This place is like home. The bathrooms, Kitchen, and Common area are always clean! It's 100% what I expected to find in a hostel and the people I met there are now real friends. I miss this place already and I can't wait to come back after doing my 88 days. I would recommend it 10 000x if you want a real hostel life experience! thanks the shiralee team, you made y stay in Perth way better!
