My wife and I spent 10 days in Cambodia, mainly visiting monasteries and areas around Phnom Penh. We arrived in Phnom Penh and stayed at California 2 on two separate occasions. The staff are fantastic and make you feel at home. We quickly noticed that a lot of locals like to come out to the nicely appointed restaurant and bar area. I especially like the regular size pool table which is provided free of charge to all guests. All guests have free access to good quality, high-speed internet, with enough bandwidth to sustain Skype video calls. The hotel is a short walk from the Royal Palace and many other town attractions. Although a bit out of the way, we walked to the Genocide Museum known as S21. (We opted to take a tuktuk on our way back.) The room was clean and comfortable, with a free safe and a fridge stocked with drinks for a reasonable fee. My only caveat is that the hotel is on a busy town street. If the view isn't that important to you, I'd ask for a room away from the street as the traffic goes on late into the night and can be noisy. If you are planning a trip to Phnom Penh, I also highly recommend the Mekong Express luxury bus service, which is right next to the California 2 Hotel. Very good value and service. We paid $11 a person and they provided all passengers with a bottle of cold water and a very tasty sweet pastry.
