Royal Hideaway Playacar – Adults Only

March 1, 2024 – March 9, 2024 Stayed in building 25 From the time we got off the private shuttle from the airport until we boarded the same for the trip back we were very impressed. We were met at the front desk with libations that set the tone for the entire trip. In no time we were in our room heading out to dinner on the deck looking at the beautiful view and loving the breeze and the sounds of the waves hitting the beach. We had made reservations for dinner before arrival for each night at a different restaurant, usually at 7pm, the communication with the resort really helped great getting everything set for our trip. Our first full day was spent poolside. Enjoyed a fantastic breakfast with omelets made to order while you watched, and mimosa’s served by a super friendly staff. The servers kept palomas coming until it was time for water aerobics in the infinity pool. The activities crew was excellent, especially Rinaldo (call me sexy Ray), Carlos & Tristan. They kept the day entertaining with announcements, games, classes and emceeing almost everything at the resort. We really enjoyed many of the extra’s offered from tequilla tasting to silent disco, to painting classes, to 4 outstanding full stage shows. The dinners were all 5 star, each plate was a work of art. The amazing bartenders kept the party going with their specialty drinks. (we usually arrived a half hour early) to the incredible and different selections offered at all of the restaurants. If you want to pay 5 star/diamond price, but have the managers at a 1 star level…this is the resort for you. The ACs do not work in most areas… this is Not something they can fix… the units are very outdated. However, the resort knows this… pretends that they don’t or that it’s new. It isn’t new. Read reviews. If you pay for a 2 level 3BR and 3 Ba suite and are happy with sleeping on couches, as bedroom is too hot… this is the resort for you - there is No air coming from the ductwork in the upstairs bedroom. It’s not a “hey it’s hot in Mexico thing”. It’s the units no longer work… right next door to the bedroom is the living room. Wonderfully cold. All we asked for was a fan. What a Simple solution. The female manager on 6/9/2024, who had no interest in Introducing herself to us, is not a problem solver… she is not interested in Making things right. She plays the game of turning on her cell phone flashlight and looking at the thermostat and then walks away. I had to call out to her and stop her to ask what the plan was. None. No plan. Just shrugs her shoulder and calls us rude that we are fed up with this revolving door way of handling this issue. We have met many other guest… check your bill before leaving. One of the couples we just met, and are leaving had all of the stated issues. Ironically she has worked over 20 years of Costco travel … and the reviews of this resort keep going downward. They won’t be back. She won’t recommend it either. However, on complaint #3 on the base of our suites MBR toilet leaking… They are finally fixing it and the entire toilet has to be replaced Thester is so outdated Exposed wires on the lawn has yet to be fixed… day # 3 we have seen this So keep in mind they have no ability to fix the AC Keep in mind the Managers do not wish to rectify this. We went to Walmart after 9 and my husband had and spent $147 USD on 2 fans. So today they say “oh we found a fan for you”… where is it? If this were a true statement wouldn’t they have just brought it to the suite that is in the same building? No. They knew we. And in about 10pm with 2 fans. The management , of all levels, just lies. Some people have no AC problems or got one of the few fans early on… so their reviews are more positive… The female manager from 6/9/2024 just shrugged when asked if she was okay with guest, who booked one of the largest suites, were sleeping on couches in the living room. - she wouldn’t even have customer service at its most basic level. She should be fired. Barcelo resorts will never be booked y this family again. And, as stated in the first review, it’s only fair to post the same number of reviews per American $ (or pesos) charged at this resort. Including the the nearly $600 in “eco system tax”, and of course the 2 fans we purchased. When we leave, the fans will go to our transportation company… not left here for this management. This is about 15th review, on 8 different sites… quite a few more to go

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful whenever we had questions. The concierges were very professional and helped book whatever we needed for our trip. We really liked how the property is separated into little villas and there's multiple relaxation pools. It makes it feel more peaceful! The drinks were pretty good and the breakfast buffet at the grill was delicious. The biggest con was the dinners. The food at every restaurant took a long time to come out and the quality was mid. We weren't expecting fine dining of course but they defintely can improve upon the quality. My fiance got steak at Spices and Azia and it was grey and chewy both times. We honestly think the steaks were microwaved. The wait time at Azia was also the worst by far. It took an hour to get two main courses so that was a bit unexpected. The best experience we had here was the Balinese bed on the sand. We got delicious food from a special pre-fixed menu, a bottle of sparkling wine, and an entire day on a comfy beach side bed! I definitely recommend it as a fun add on. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here!

We were very pleased with the Royal Hideaway in Playacar. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our suite was beautiful with multiple balconies with seating outside to enjoy the views as well as a full complementary bar and comfortable bed. The oceanfront was clean and beautiful. The thing we were most pleasantly surprised with was the quality of the food. The food was the best we’ve experienced from an all inclusive. The restaurants for dinner were excellent. We loved the hibachi and sushi from Azia as well as the Mexican show with dinner at Club Royale. It was great to have the room service option as well for convenience. We were celebrating a birthday and they sent a lovely desert for a special treat. The one slight downside was that it was super hot weather and the air conditioning in our room could have been a bit more powerful/cold. We were fine, but a bit more refreshing AC would have been nice.

This resort is beautiful, relaxing, and easy to navigate. My husband and I stayed here for our second time and we will probably return. My parents were in awe of all our photos and want to stay at RHP. The food is pretty spectacular overall with lots of options. I loved the resort activities I participated in including the Mexican crafts, sushi making, and painting. They have free kayaking and bike tours as well. here.All the staff were exceptional and friendly. Karina Ortiz,in particular, went above and beyond for my husband and me when we needed extra assistance. Karina Ortiz and her lovely smile are a tremendous asset to the Royal Hideaway Playacar team. Thank you, Karina, and RHP for providing us with a wonderful experience!

Everything about the resort was great except the AC in the rooms. Unbearable heat for sleeping. Room didn’t get below 79 degrees for our entire stay.

Nicolas saved our night! Not only was he attentive and accommodating, he went above and beyond by recommending dishes for us that went along within the wine and courses we ordered. After dinner, he also helped us bring back food to those of our party who were under the weather. Plus he gave us a preview of the “Chef’s Table”’experience. Can’t recommend more!

We had an incredible experience here. would absolutely recommend to anyone wanting a luxury vacation.
