The best hotel in this area, bar none, but it can only be reached by car. The front desk is friendly and the restaurant service is quite satisfying. Remember to make reservations for restaurants and swimming pools, otherwise you may not have a seat

Boringdon is a very nice hotel but our experience was more 4 than 5 star (except for the dinner which was exceptional in taste, presentation and service). We booked a stable room Mayflower Dining experience package for the final night of our honeymoon. We booked the exact same package two years ago and the room was far smaller this time although the bed was very comfortable and the fresh milk in the fridge was a nice touch. The room itself did look quite tired with marks on the walls and the bathroom in need of a refresh, but it was clean and comfortable (just not what I would call five star). Staff left a card and a mini bottle of gin for us in our room to say congratulations which was lovely of them. The staff were all lovely and always available to help. The dinner was excellent and the beef fillet was the best I have ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot!). Cocktails were delicious too, and the Canadian ice wine suggested to go with the apricot tart for dessert matched very well according to my husband. I myself am gluten free and there were plenty of options for me on the menu. The beef wasn't originally available as a gluten free dish however I requested to see if the chef was able to make it GF which wasn't a problem at all and I'm so glad I did because it was incredible. The kitchen made us some ganache chocolate coins as a celebration of our recent wedding which was so kind. The breakfast unfortunately did not live up to our expectations and was nowhere near as good as it was two years ago. This time we had breakfast upstairs in the Spatisserie. We were seated right next to a very large window with no blind or curtain and the table became unbearably hot (in October!!). We had to leave mid meal because of this. We did ask to move but was told it wasn't possible. Service was incredibly slow because there weren't enough staff. The ones who were there were working hard but they needed an extra pair of hands. I was also sad to see that the two course breakfast has now become a buffet + one menu item. For me, as someone with allergies, I actively avoid hotels with buffets because they are not safe for me. Staff know this because before I even asked if there was an alternative to the buffet they told me I'd have to sign a disclaimer form if I wanted to eat from it (I didn't but they didn't ask that). This made me feel like they don't accommodate allergies at breakfast and I felt a bit like a second class hotel guest. After requesting if there was anything they could do, I was given some Greek yogurt and fruit directly from the kitchen, which was nice. Our toast never arrived and we left 45 minutes after it had been ordered. It's a shame that the breakfast left us feeling as we did because up until then we had enjoyed our stay although we had already discussed how it wasn't quite as good as our previous visit. The spa is lovely but was very busy. We did manage to get a lounger but lots of people didn't, so bear that in mind when visiting. The

Ideal location, tranquil and relaxing. Beautiful grounds. Near to Plympton, Dartmoor, Plymouth, yet also quite secluded. Golf club nearby. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient. Carried my luggage to my room which was much appreciated. The room was a stables room which was a 'small' double. I have paid more money for smaller rooms elsewhere. It was good size, as was the bathroom, with complimentary Gaia toiletries. Real milk in the fridge for the coffee. I stayed midweek and was pleased that the hotel adjusted the cost for a solo traveler. Many hotels charge for 2 people. The room was cheaper because I stayed midweek. Obviously, it would have been more at weekends. Larger rooms would have cost more. Everything was spotless. Thank you housekeeping. Food was excellent. I didn't have afternoon tea, but it looked gorgeous. breakfast eggs were cooked to perfection. Staff were attentive throughout the hotel. The spa: fantastic. One of the best spas I have ever been to. It is ultra modern, yet it blends perfectly with the original hotel, which is hundreds of years old.

I can't wait to re-visit Borringon. The spa is wonderful - clean, new and the staff really follow up on the "no saving seats with towels". The staff are (mainly) warm and welcoming. My bedroom and bathroom well designed. The food mainly good - if sometimes presented in an impractical way (French Toast in a bowl that went flying with every cut). However, my bed and bedding were awful. Twin mattresses - one half hard and lumpy, the other soft and lumpy but neither comfortable. As they are on one divan why not have one mattresses? The bedding was like sleeping under a piece of heavy, inflexible foam. I hated not giving Borringon full marks but the bed was awful.

Another fantastic spa day, I went with a friend and we had wonderful treatments with mindy and jess, couldn't fault them. However for us the standout employee was Lottie in the spa restaurant, I have several food allergies/intolerance and she went above and beyond to ensure I could have a wonderful afternoon tea. She told us that she has recently passed her probation and she was very knowledgeable about all the food items, explained everything thoroughly and was absolutely delightful. She is definitely a shining star and Boringdon are very lucky to have her o staff, we can only see great things ahead for this young lady.

The Hotel itself is an imposing building, so we had high hopes for our 3 night stay. Reception and check in went smoothly with the offer of a much welcome peach lemonade while we waited. Our 4-poster room was on the second floor of the main house. I had to ask for help with our bags. In a 5 star hotel this service should be standard practice. We asked to use the EV charging point, and were told to download an App and then follow the instructions on the charging unit. Unfortunately we could not get the system to work, so after trying several times, we asked for a member of staff to come out and assist us. Rather grudgingly a staff member did come out but was unable to sort the issue. We were told to "try again later". Just as well we have a hybrid vehicle, or we would have been in real trouble. We dined in The Mayflower restaurant. The room, staff and ambience was very pleasant. However, while the presentation of the food was lovely, we both felt the dishes lacked flavour. It was all rather underwhelming. Sadly, things did not improve for breakfast. While staff are polite, service is extremely slow. On two mornings we waited 20 minutes for our tea and juices to be brought to the table. On our second morning we had to return both our breakfasts. Yes, this was dealt with efficiently but dishes should be checked before leaving the kitchen. Similarly, if toast is ordered, then please don't serve warm bread! Thankfully, our final breakfast was much improved. We did not use the Spa facilities as it always seemed so busy. Our room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The addition of fresh milk in the fridge is a bonus. We did enjoy our break but left feeling somewhat cheated. It is an expensive place to stay and eat, so should deliver high standards on all levels. This was a special birthday treat, but sadly it did not live up to expectations.

Overall a lovely place. We booked last minute on the same day so got it very cheap. - friendly staff - the best spa I’ve been to so far - beautiful grounds and decoration - appreciated the small touches such as nespresso machine, fresh biscuits and water in the room - comfortable beds - large rooms - delicious cocktails Cannot comment on food as didn’t eat there. They accidentally charged us for a newspaper we didn’t order/ receive but easily rectified.

Amazing all round, staff lovely, food perfect and the spa had everything you needed to relax. It was a little pricey but well worth it. This special memory was my Xmas pressie which we finally managed to get booked in. We took our fur baby 🐶 which they accommodated so well. She has a bed, bowls and even a roast dinner in the room.

-staff were lovely and very helpful and friendly. Nice welcome drinks on arrival -the stable rooms were very basic but the bed and bedding was comfy, shampoo and conditioner in room was lovely and the room was pitch black at night which was great -the spa was lovely, clean and plenty of facilities -I like the ordering drinks to pool feature, though we had to wait 40 minutes for a smoothie at 7:50am -spa can get busy at times/no sun loungers sometimes -car park very busy too but free -the hotel itself smelt lovely and appeared very clean -we did not dine here so cannot comment on the food Overall a lovely stay
