The location is amazing. Really. Right opposite entrance to Pompeii, and with the breakfast room on the 4th floor (genius idea) you even get a view of the site over breakfast. The bathroom was quite nice and the shower didn’t leak (somehow that seems to be unusual in my experience)! Unfortunately we found that was about it in terms of positives. If you’re on holiday and planning to enjoy yourself, have a bit of a treat - book somewhere else. Everything else was ‘fine’ or bad! Breakfast for example was poor. The hot food was cold. The cold food was not very nice and there wasn’t much variety. The coffee machine was broken, so you had to queue at the bar to have it made one by one (and even then my latte macchiato barely had any coffee in it- worst coffee I had in Italy). It was noisy - which was frustrating when trying to get to sleep. A (or maybe the hotel one) below was busy and bustling well beyond 11:30pm and kept us awake. Shutting the windows didn’t block out the noise. The light stayed on (dimly) when we turned it off, and the fire alarm flashed a green light every few seconds meaning the room wasn’t that conducive to sleeping in! Finally - and this was just unnecessary - having booked for 2 adults and 1 child (primary school age) upon arrival we were told that we had to pay extra if we wanted the child to have a bed or breakfast! Utterly ridiculous. Having travelled all day, arrived fairly late in the evening with a tired child - a fight with the receptionist was really not what we needed. Completely unnecessary. The manager was called and rather than apologising tried to maintain the position. Needless to say we did not pay any more- as no more was deserved.
