The Editory is a smart looking, well located hotel but it is sadly badly managed. Housekeeping and cleanliness are an issue. Our room was not cleaned and when it was, it was not to a good standard. On one occasion we returned to our room at 6.30pm to find the room exactly how we left it, including our damp towels in a pile in the shower. We went to reception to speak to someone and were assured it would be dealt with immediately. To pass some time, we had a drink in the bar. We popped back to reception to check that the room was being cleaned and were assured it was. We returned to our room at 7.45pm, it had not been cleaned. We phoned reception twice to complain and at 8pm the room was finally cleaned and the damp towels were removed and replaced. When the room was cleaned, the cleaning wasn’t great. The room felt a bit dusty, the toiletries were not replenished and the coffee machine capsules were not replaced. The air conditioning unit was also a bit noisy, the TV buffered a lot and on one morning there was a lack of hot water. Room cleaning needs to be managed better and spot checks would prevent the issues I have described. It was not the fault of the cleaner, the blame squares with the housekeeping manager. The outdoor area by the swimming pool was disappointingly dirty the afternoon we decided to sit outside. We found every table cluttered with used glasses, cups & plates. There was also rubbish on the floor. A regular check of the public areas would have ensured this area was clean and tidy. Breakfast was good but the breakfast area was closed between 9am- 9.45am for a private function on the last day of our stay. Closing off the breakfast area at a popular time and not providing an alternative was unacceptable. A small breakfast could have been provided in the bar & by the swimming pool. We couldn’t even have a coffee, because the capsules for our machine had not been replaced. This could have been checked when the letter explaining the closure was put in our room. When we made our way to breakfast at 10am there were no tables available because the private event had overran. In fairness, a table was sorted within 5 minutes, but still, this is apparently a 5 star hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, the WiFi is perfect and the rooms are a good size. The management of the hotel however is poor and this sadly reflects badly on the staff, who are all lovely. I fear that if these issues are not resolved the staff are going to find themselves on the receiving end of many complaints this summer. Managing the rooms and the cleaning wouldn’t take much but for now this is not a hotel I would recommend and not somewhere I’ll stay again.
