Nice room in a nice area.

A real gem. The guesthouse is full of character, has been tastefully renovated and our room was very spacious and well appointed. Great buffet style breakfast with heaps of choice, lots of fresh pastries, breads, fruit etc. Maria was delightful and super helpful. The guesthouse is in a great location. It's in a fun neighborhood with lots of bars, restaurants and quirky little shops within striking distance and easy to walk down into the centre of Porto, to the Metro etc. All in all it was perfect. Very well positioned accommodation, only 5 x minutes walk from Trindade metro station which is on the direct metro line from the airport. The area seems a bit run down but actually is fine and there are a few bars/restaurants along the street if you don't always want to go into central Porto for dinner etc. Very nice welcome when we arrived and the building is lovely and traditional and well decorated as was our room. Breakfast was also great, a good selection of breads/fruit/yoghurts etc attended by a lovely lady called Talitia? the main problem for us was the noise, our room was on the front of the hotel so I would think a room at the back would be much quieter. the road isn't busy but it is cobbled so any traffic is very loud and only a few feet away from the bedroom windows which have no sound insulation even with shutters closed so we were woken pretty early in the morning once traffic started. The sound insulation throughout the house is limited so when there was a child staying on the floor below and crying/screaming/singing early in the morning this was also very annoying and didn't hep us to have a lie in.. Our shower also leaked a lot so hand towels were all totally soaked with mopping the water up which is not great as the floor was then quite slippery.

I was so disappointed in this hotel. It is more like an unserviced apartment with no facilities in the room. No kettle, not even a bottle of water. Only one chair and no area to get ready unless you count by the shower. As for location, we did not feel safe walking around at night. So many rough sleepers and beggars. We were meant to be staying here two nights but we booked into another hotel for one night which was cheaper than what we paid for this hotel and was much much better. Highly recommend the Vincci Porto de Ferro and just wish we had booked there for two nights instead of here. Stunning views and a warm reception including coffee, water, tub, seating and vanity table. All that was missing from the Porto Vintage Guesthouse. I did message the owner to say we would not be there at breakfast however when we did arrive, the woman who greeted us was extremely rude. Asking where we had been and she had checked our room and we had not slept there. I was very perturbed to have our whereabouts questioned in such a way. We had left some things of ours in the room and was not expecting anyone to go into our room much less question where we had been. Especially as I had messaged to say we would not be at breakfast. Honestly the worst reception we have ever had. I do not know how anyone would rate this hotel, I feel so ripped off and the way we were treated by the receptionist soured our last day here. It wouldn’t be so bad if there was a communal area where you could go and make a drink but the door is locked except for a few hours at breakfast. And then to the worst part, the noise in room 21. All night long there were cars up and down the street, we have never had such a poor nights sleep. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
