Shard Riverside

Stayed a couple of nights for a wedding locally. Great room, great food and great friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Pity the weather wasn't good enough to sit out by the river. Location good with good views from the Riverside rooms.

This is the place you want to come to if you want a relaxing break. You are given a warm welcome from all the staff but the staff member of the hotel is Michael, who seems to be there first thing in the morning and last thing at night. It’s lovely to sit outside overlooking the river Wyre and the sunsets are beautiful. Our bedroom on the first floor had everything you needed for your stay and was spotless the bathroom was spacious with a fabulous shower. The restaurant airs first class with locally sourced ingredients. On the night we stayed I tried the steak that was cooked to absolute perfection.

Stayed recently and it was disappointing to say the least. Firsty, the bedding was dirty when we arrived to our room. There were long dark hairs on the pillows and duvet cover, and makeup / mascara on one of the pillowcases. Also a dirty towel hanging on the back of the door. We went straight back downstairs and, to be fair to them, the staff (George?) and the restaurant / bar owner were really apologetic about this issue and done their best to rectify it for us (without them, this would be a one-star review). But the issues continued from there. The bed was absolutely awful - it felt cheap and we could feel every spring. We had hardly any sleep and had to attend a wedding the next day absolutely shattered. We mentioned this to the lady on reception and we were completely dismissed - 'you have one of the best rooms in the hotel and nobody's ever complained about the bed' - very difficult to believe but we were not prepared to get into a fight about it. The room was generally unclean and dusty. I dropped my bobble on the floor and picked it up absolutely covered in dust. Bathroom needed a good scrub. The tiles and around the plugs were grubby and the accessories are dirty and rusted. Under the sink unit was thick with grime. The decorative cushions on the bed were unclean and completely flat, they need washing and replacing. ...I could go on, unfortunately. Overall, everything is in need of a deep clean / refreshing and their photos are overly generous. Definitely not worth the £125 per night we paid for a 'superior' room. I have no doubt that this review will be met by the same member of staff telling us we're wrong, but there were plenty of similar complaints from other hotel guests and I took some photos also, attached. The only saving grace was that our evening meal in the restaurant was nice and the service was great. Please pass on our thanks to the Cyrpiot manager.

We booked for our family to stay a couple of nights for a wedding. The staff headed by Michael were outstanding. Relaxed atmosphere We had views of the river and the service was personal and professional.. nothing too much trouble. Food was really good had a large selection of starters and bites all of which were lovely. Breakfast had a great selection and the lovely lady from South Shields made our experience that much nicer with humour and great service. Can’t thank you enough for a super experience. Weather was a bonus

We booked a room last minute and for the £70 paid it was good value. Fairly comfortable bed & lots of storage but very small shower & toilet room. Good view of the river & loved watching the many seabirds & the ebb & flow of the tide. Really good Sunday roast whilst sat on the patio overlooking the Wyre. Even though they were waiting for new barrels of beer to settle my husband enjoyed the draught stout & me the draught cider. Staff were lovely, efficient & courteous. Full breakfast not as good with mushrooms that were well past their best & should not have been presented on the plate and over cooked scrambled eggs. However we enjoy the cereals and fruit etc.

Group of 9 women stayed overnight for my sisters birthday. Lovely place and perfect location especially when sunny sitting outside which we did. Bar food was really nice and drinks were reasonably priced. Breakfast was delicious with good options. Would stay again. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because if the wind is in the wrong direction the smell from the estuary water is a bit unpleasant.

As a person that works in hospitality and deals with residents staying daily very strange to be writing instead of answering a review . The positives lovely hotel beautiful location convenient for our stay. However hospitality here is sadly lacking. We entered the bar to get a drink the bar person was alone and we had a small wait he then proceeded to serve us he possibly was new and in the middle of serving our drinks the older manager or owner blasted him for serving us first his comment “Just because people in here are standing at the bar doesn’t mean you serve them first” this was extremely rude and aggressive not to mention he said nothing to us it was as if we were invisible. Now perhaps they were busy outside and he needed help but this made us made us feel very uncomfortable. Breakfast staff very unfriendly not one said good morning maybe it was because we came down at 8.45am.

Very good food brilliant location great prices very busy restaurant which is a good sign ! The staff were a little slow especially the older guy it was like he had all the time in the world but it was packed and we got fed up of waiting so we didn’t even up ordering a dessert 🤣

What a superb time we have had here at the Shard Riverside - Staff so accommodating - nothing too much trouble. We want to thank Michael -George - Jess and everyone who made this stay so very special for Annia and James wedding. Dale - WE Could not fault the food - Suzie even made Auntie Jennies ‘Eggy Bread’. Thank You Guys see you again.
