I visited Puerto Plata for the first time from April 19-26 to attend a beach wedding. I wish I could give this establishment a 5-star, but I gave a 4-star because the resort was dated and needs renovations to the rooms. I cannot say enough about this resort. I enjoyed SO MUCH, see below CONs and PROs: CONS: - we waited almost 2 hours for our room (check-in is at 3:00 pm and it was close to 5 that we were able to access rooms) - the washrooms need renovating (tiles chipped, mildew on caulking, no shower door or anything to prevent the shower from spraying into washroom) - the AC was not on full (it was not just our room but several others that attend the wedding as well - the AC was on medium, not high at all) and getting ready was a challenge as we were sweating even after a shower! - lighting - the lighting in the room was the WORST part - couldn't see to get ready! There are only bedside lamps and wall lighting. The light in the centre of the ceiling fan didn't work in any of the 5 rooms we booked! Very challenging to get ready for nighttime events and for the wedding activities. - the bathrooms do not have venting when showering in warm or hot water (it steamed up and everyone was getting ready in the washrooms due to poor lighting outside) - the safe did not work - only half mirror for dressing - prefer a full-length mirror either on wall or on closet door - the beach had alot of sea****, but that's due to tides. We only went into the ocean 3 times. The pool was great - it's nice to have an oceanview room, but this resort, this means you are in building 5 or 6 and far away from the pool, grille, disco, lobby, entertainment, courtyard and buffet. It's a far walk however ther are trolleys but that took time - my next visit, I will be fine with a garden/tropical view and stay in buildings 8 or 9 which are closer to the main areas (lobby, dining, entertainment, disco, etc.) - a la carte dinner selections get booked up fast (reserve these upon check-in) PROS: - the rooms were clean - the bed was extremely comfortable - the entire complex was well manicured and maintained - the 3 a la carte dining options were AMAZING - the food was spectacular - main dining room and Grille - fantastic food (great variety and clean premises) - LOVED the fresh fruits, fruit juices and variety of foods in both the buffet dining room and grille (even the picky eaters had variety and didn't complain!) - the complex is lively at night - the shows and entertainment along with the DJ and merengue/salsa dancing in the courtyard was so much fun - family-friendly resort (my 10 year old LOVED it) - the pool was so much fun - clean and lively with alot of people, entertaininment, music - peacocks roam the premises to show off their gorgeous plumage - the coffee and alcoholic beverages were FANTASTIC, loved every single drink - customer service from everyone we dealt with were very kind, friendly and courteous - this resort is eco-friendly (no unrecyclable paper or pla
