The Zona Z hotel is an eight-room hotel located in what had been an apar**ent building until it was spectacularly remodeled a few years ago by owners Siggy and Mark. Our room was attractively decorated with a bright decor. There was a king bed, a separate sitting area with a small sofa and side chair, a small kitchenette with a mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster, and even a private balcony with sitting for two that overlooked the patio and small pool. The bathroom was small but well-designed with multiple shelves for toiletries next to the pedestal sink. The room was immaculate and in excellent repair. As the hotel is located on a dead-end street a few blocks above the bars and restaurants, there was little street noise. That plus a powerful AC and comfy bed resulted in excellent sleep quality. Beware that it is a 92-step climb to the hotel from the street below; between 9 AM and 10 PM-ish, a free funicular (tip with coins) is available. Annoyances were limited to the shower. Hot water is provided by a mini-tank water heater that intermittently provided scaldingly hot water; despite continuous adjus**ents of the controls, water temperature varied between too cool and too hot. In addition, the rain shower wasn’t located overhead; a conventional shower head would provide a more satisfactory spray in this installation. This property is not five star luxurious but it earned that rating by hitting all of the targets for a moderately priced boutique hotel,
