My family and I stayed at the Riu Republica for 6 nights and I will say it was not the best vacation we experience but tried to make the best of the situation. I'll start off with the bad. The rooms we're definitely out dated. The curtains on the patio door had lots of stain marks. There were few mold spots in the bathroom. The water in the shower smelled awful. I had to go to the front desk 5 separate times due to our key cards did not work on the first night we were there. Each time I would go down there, they would give me another set of key cards and each time they did not work. Come to find out, it was a sensor issue on the door. Then my kids rooms, the air conditioner was not working. My 6th time going down to the front desk on our first day there to complain about my kids rooms not having any air and you know how hot it gets there in Punta Cana and this particular day was extremely hot. I spent most of my evening on our first night just trying to get our room situated which wasn't complete until after 10pm. As I went down to the front desk to let them know about my key cards, it seem everyone was having that same problem. Luckily, there was a nice lady (I wish I would have gotten her name) took the time to allow my kids to switch out their room for that evening and then the next day, she went out of her way to replace their room along with mine & my wife's room to a different floor with a better view. And when we booked the rooms few months back, we booked a King size for my wife and I and they gave my wife and I 2 full separate beds SMH! When my kids received their new room the next day, it was better than their last room because they had air but come to find out, the air wasn't really blowing out cold air like our room was. Tried to adjust the temperature but that didn't work. They still went ahead and stayed in the room. But I do appreciate the last at the front desk accommodating our situation. However there were some staff workers did seem to have little attitudes when trying to ask for assistance. When we stayed at the Riu in Montego Bay, Jamaica, we had a blast, thinking we were going to get the same experience but that was not the case. With this being our first time in the DR we have decided most likely will not come back or at least stay at the Riu Repulbica. Now for the somewhat good. We pretty much ate at the buffet where they had some good tasting food there but then at the same time, some of the food was not that great. we had read lots of the reviews about the food being horrible. some food items, yes I agree but they had some food items there were ok. There were a couple of staff workers that were really nice & we made sure to sit at their working station. They would interact with us and even teach us little Spanish lol. We made sure to give them a nice tip each night. Again do not know their names but one young kid had braces, very very nice. The drinks there were ok, I pretty much order the same 1 or 2 drinks every time
