The Elms Hotel

We selected this hotel as we had stayed there 4 years earlier. We were disappointed on this occasion because although we were a couple staying they only provided facilities for a single guest, only one bath towel and one hand towel. Also only small miniture toiletries for one person. The bathroom basin was slow in draining. The water pressure was not strong enough to allow the over the bath shower to work and finally we were not able to open the french window for fresh air. The only good point was that the bed was comfortable.

We stayed at the Elms for two nights to attend our friend’s off site wedding. Check in was quick and easy, the owners are welcoming & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. On the Friday evening we spent a few hours in the hotels lovely bar, the choice of beverages was fab & the Guinness was very nice. Later in the evening we visited the hotels on site Indian Restaurant & it was absolutely fantastic. The food and service was absolutely amazing & good value for money, the menu was outstanding,, the restaurant itself is beautiful & authentic, a real Gem. The hotel room was basic & spotless, our bed was very comfortable. The hotel has retained all it’s original features, what a beautiful building. The hotel grounds are quite extensive and beautiful, with ample free parking all surrounded with huge trees and gardens. We had breakfast on Saturday morning, my only negative was at it’s £12.99 price point for a full English breakfast with toast & coffee, unfortunately was the quality of the sausages, however, to be fair everything else on the plate was very very nice. Breakfast service was great we didn’t wait long. Would we stop at the Elms again, absolutely, this hotel is very well Managed and the owners are a lovely hard working family. We look forward to visiting you all again. Thank you for looking after us.

Excellent food & wine at a small private function, beautifully presented by smiling friendly staff. Looking forward to dining again. It's well over 30 years since I last came here but everywhere looked clean & well looked after. Nice easy car parking at the front as well.

We just stayed one night as we were visiting family nearby. It was fine, other than the unplanned fire alarm going off in the middle of the night in our room. Still no idea why. It would have nice to have been told something by staff though as we left. Hotel was fine and good value.

Travelling on business and Due to a late booking the Elms in Retford was a limited choice due to favoured hotels in the area being unavailable. I found it to be a bit neglected and in need of refurbishment, the room was cold and in need of decoration, there was no heating in the bathroom, tv and as tiny and the furnishings were well worn . the hotel had that “foisty “ smell you get in older lower end hotels . there is choice if an Indian and English menu with food served in the bar and the Indian food was ok tbf, although I didn’t have breakfast. On balance i wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

We ad a really lovely breakfast at The Elms this morning We ad the small breakfast wear orange juice coffee then the breakers was Sausage bacon egg Tomatoe mushrooms hash brown and Toast with Jam or Marmalade it was very nice food was hot presented nice excellent service and reasonable priced and thoroughly enjoyed it 10/10 we will be back well worth it xx
