Central Guesthouse Reykjavik

The worst and most terrible! You may waste a WHOLE AFTERNOON here to wait the host and fail to check-in! We booked one room very early, and when we arrived, there is nobody there. They put the keys with names in entrance, but we didn't find our names and keys. We called the hotel for two hours and nobody answered!! Also nobody answered emails and texts in time. We waited there for a whole afternoon and failed to find a person for check-in. We also missed our booked sky lagoon slot because of wasting hours there. Obviously the administration is messy and unresponsive. Finally we still cannot reach them so we change to another hotel. Please also note this room is NON-REFUNDABLE!!!

Unfortunately, before we had even arrived I had contacted the owners to find out if towels were included in our stay and we never received a response. Upon entering the triple studio apartment, we noticed paint/concrete flaking from the wall and one of us even had to put a blanket above the bunk bed to stop debris from falling onto the bed. The property is described as including toiletries and tea and coffee but there was no tea bags and the amount of instant coffee in the container was barely enough for one day. The toiletries were what looked to be shower gel that had been left behind by the previous visitors. When searching for your standard shampoo and conditioner that we're expected to be on display, we found two empty alcohol bottles full of cigarette butt's inside them and bottle tops left inside one of the bed side tables. This suggests that the apartment is rarely cleaned. There was an awful smell of egg/faeces when using the shower and there was no where near enough toilet roll for 3 people for 3/4 days. We understood that the accommodation was described as a guesthouse, however, despite the fact that there was a 'no noise after midnight' policy - the people staying in the otherside of the guesthouse were noisy and shouting all through the night and playing loud music which meant we could not fully enjoy our plans the following day. Overall, we would not stay here again and do not recommend the guesthouse if you want a clean and tidy stay. We decided it would be worth spending extra money next time for a comfortable, reassuring stay somewhere else inside the city.

Nice place, very central location!!

Best is location a block to a lake with swans and ducks, 4 blocks to Rainbow Street and shopping and restaurants. Negative is parking not as stated and no one was there when they said they would be. You have to figure everything out for yourself.

After reading so many negative reviews, I was afraid that our keys wouldn't be waiting for us or that there would be bed bugs. None of that happened and we loved the place! Just as described in the email, we used the access code to get into the lobby, and our keys were there waiting for us with our names on them. It took us a few minutes to find the doors to our studios, but we found them and they were quite spacious, with 4 twin beds and a kitchen and a bathroom in each studio. It would have been preferable to have someone there to greet us and check us in, but that's probably why the price for these studios was so reasonable. The location is right in the middle of numerous nice restaurants and bars. I highly recommend!

Parking provided is normal public paid parking 8n Reyjyavik which is free after 6pm until 9am.

Older rooms and not terribly quiet between rooms but great to have access to a kitchen to make breakfast or lunch. Nice walkable location and bus stop right out front. Overall, pleased with stay.

The previous day our reservation was canceled, but we were still charged the amount on our credit card. Do not book.
