Relais Santa Maria Maggiore

The hotel has THE PERFECT LOCATION. It’s walking distance (10 minutes) from the railway station but far away enough to be in a safe area, near 2 amazing basilicas. As you can see in the photos, I had a wonderful view of Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore from the room. The hotel is the restored old granary of Basilica of Santa Prassede. It’s an historic building, each floor has the names of the cereals that were stored here. The staff is very kind, very very efficient and generally lovely. The room was clean, not too spacious, especially the bathroom, but ok. Unfortunately we booked a room with breakfast, but the hotel doesn’t offer this service any longer (not the hotel’s fault, but the booking supplier). Thankfully there are some nice bar in the area and the reception staff was able to direct us (go early as they are all quite busy). Overall I would definitely recommend it.

Very tiny room and no window inside the room

The hotel is very nice. Clean and modern. The rooms are not large but have everything you need to stay for a few nights. At reception, Mohammed was a gem. He made our stay memorable. Loads of knowledge and recommendations. We will definitely be booking into this hotel on our next Rome visit.

Pros: Perfect location near the centre about 30 minute walk to the Colloseum and some restaurants. Small standard room- Bed was comfortable, bathroom was adequate size. Cozy and very cool decor and architecture. Tea/coffee facilities available. Room cleaned daily. Friendly staff. Cons: coffee maker was broken. Had to call the front desk to fix the kettle. Towel rail and one of the coffee mug handle were broken. Advert and photos are misleading as it shows it does breakfast service but they don't. Miscommunication in terms of late check out fee. Very tiny lift. Leaks in ceiling in the hall. Needs TLC. Overall very good for a short city break. Longer stay maybe choose a different hotel.
