Hotel Santa Maria

It’s difficult to describe in words the magic of this place. The nearest I can come to it is as if it’s like a perfect artistic performance . Obviously there is a great deal of work and effort behind it, but everything flows seemingly so effortlessly and naturally in this exquisite retreat right behind one of the most beautiful squares in Rome. I’ve been here many times, whenever there was a room available ;) in more than a decade and it only seems to get better and better without loosing anything if it’s original charm . It is a family run hotel and the obvious love and care of the owners reflects into everything. And when I say everything it is e v e r y t h i n g : from the warm smiles and eager assistance at any hour from all the staff, the embrace of the incredibly beautiful orchard garden , the generous rooms, the great breakfast , the happiest of hours … I’ve been in many hotels all over the world and never felt really compelled to write a review . But this place simply deserves it ! Hope to be back soon !

Perfect location, ideal setting in the courtyard for breakfast and/or happy hour, but the staff are what really set this place apart. I can't say enough about how great they all are. Order the aperol spritz from Kevin; it's the best you'll find in Italy! Kevin, Federico, and Chiara - We can't wait to come visit you again! A presto!

My husband and I stayed here in April 2016 and we loved it. We used the airport pick up service offered by the hotel and were glad that we did because I am not sure that we would have found the hotel otherwise! The two of us stayed in a triple room (it was the same price as a double at the time of booking) which we found very spacious. The bottle of chilled prosecco on arrival was a very welcome treat. There was a very tasty selection of complimentary appies during the evening happy hour. I was a bit doubtful about the location prior to going but it turned out to be perfect for us. We walked most places and if necessary a taxi stand was less than a 5 minute walk away. There were lots of nice restaurants nearby and hotel staff made some good recommendations for where to dine. A suggestion if you are jetlagged or an early morning person: we took a taxi to Trevi Fountain at 5:30 am (cost about 10 E) and we had it to ourselves! So different from the day before when we visited in the afternoon among the throng of tourists. Then we meandered slowly back to our hotel for breakfast while stopping by the Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona. Everything looked so different in the beautiful early morning light and without the busy traffic and people.

The hotel is a beautiful, peaceful oasis in the heart of Trastevere in Rome. Great, walkable location. Clean and comfortable rooms. The best breakfast we had in Italy. The people at the Hotel Santa Maria are special. Everyone that we met was very kind and really cared about us and our experience at the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and will stay there again the next time we are in Rome. Highly recommended!!

Hotel Santa Maria is an absolute island of calm and beauty in the midst of what can be a very busy neighborhood, Trastevere attracting swarms of tourists (many of them young people out partying and dining). The front desk staff was impeccable, particularly Emanuele and Adriano, who couldn't have been more helpful. The only drawback to the hotel has nothing to do with the hotel itself--it's the tiny winding streets of Trastevere, which are charming, but this means that you will need to walk a distance to find a bus into the center of Rome. That said, though, the hotel is a short walk to the Ponte Sisto, and once you cross the bridge, within a few blocks you'll find yourself near the Campo de' Fiori and in the midst of many lovely streets, shops and restaurants. This is one of the most relaxing hotels I've ever stayed in, and I hope to return one day.

Beautiful, quiet and with excellent service, everything was even better than what we expected for our stay in Rome. Breakfast in a nice garden, very confortable room with two different areas for the three of us and a nice bathroom. But most important, care even for smallest details. Definitely, a place to recomend.

The hotel was perfect and stunning! A real gem in a very busy part of Rome! You could sit in the courtyard 30 metres from the huddle and bustle and not hear a thing! But walk out through the vine lined private road and be in the heart of things! Staff were absolutely fantastic and I would only ever book at this hotel in Rome, with question fantastic!

Best place in Rome. Staff amazing. Breakfast crew and food - the best. Walking to all major sights and lots going on around the area. Felt very safe.

My wife and I have visited Rome at least 5 times. Each time we have returned to Hotel Santa Maria. The staff, the hotel and the service provided have never disappointed. This has been reliably consistent over the years. This hotel is a hidden oasis in the hustle and bustle of Rome. It is so nice to return at the end of a day and enjoy the calm and quiet of the garden. Happy hour is always a pleasant time to relax, enjoy an aperitif and discuss the experiences of the day. The next time we travel to Rome, we will definitely stay at Hotel Santa Maria.
