Hotel de Bourgtheroulde, Autograph Collection

Hidden gem for a night or two. Arrived at the property very late and had difficulty entering the hotel parking area. After asking evening front desk for help, the clerk came outside and assisted with luggage, parking, and even showing our family the property. Rooms are nice and the breakfast buffet is a must!

Although we never mastered how to pronounce the name of this hotel (!!!), my husband and I loved it and would strongly recommend it to anyone traveling to Rouen. We stayed there with a group of 18 friends on a tour and to a person we were blown away by the extraordinary location and service offered. When our van arrived at the hotel, they were awaiting us outside with multiple porters to check us in and take bags to our lovely, large and comfortable rooms. The hotel location is right in the middle of old town so you can just step outside to great shopping, restaurants and historic sites. On top of all of this, the hotel was extremely helpful in arranging a group dinner and making travel suggestions in advance of our arrival (thank you Hajar and Romane for the tips). Our only regret was not staying longer.

This hotel is a very old building. As a consequence there is quite an intricate system of corridors, elevators and stairs to get to your room. When I eventually arrived at my room, I was very pleased to see that the loft room I was given was larger than I expected. Everything was as good or better than expected. As usual, pillows were a bit too soft, but the bed had a perfect firmness. As often is the case in continental Europe, the windows are not the thickest, so there is a bit of noise from outside, but you must at least be more sound sensitive than I am to be annoyed by it. Location is very central, as the near the university as I could get. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet had slightly more options than I would expect in France, but not enough to consider it an attraction. It was nice to have my own Nespresso machine in the room. There are no doubt cheaper hotels in Rouen, and I cannot say if they are more worth it. Hotel de Bourgtheroulde is a safe choice if it fits your budget and you are not mobility impaired.

We stayed in a Junior Suite with a king bed. Our courtyard view was of a construction site. They are completely renovating their courtyard area, which will be very beautiful one completed. Unfortunately, the room was very warm and we only had one window that would partially open onto the dust of the courtyard, so not enjoyable for us to hear all that noise and get all the dust in our room trying to get some fresh air. The room was large, but the layout was a bit strange. The hotel is very convenient to all the tourist places and shopping of Rouen and close to many good restaurants. They serve a breakfast buffet that was acceptable, but nothing special. We ate one meal in the bar area that was good, but again, nothing special. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They have onsite parking for a fee.
