Really lovely staff could not have been more helpful. Carrying my suitcase up two floors. Always available to advise at reception or in the Bar. Great service each day at breakfast

Unassuming, traditional hotel enjoying a super location in the centre of Rye. We had a very pleasant 2 night stay in a family room. Lovely large room with very comfortable beds and great view. All was clean, shower was hot and staff very nice. Breakfast was very good quality and lots of choice. The decor is a bit mismatched and tired in places but we liked the faded grandeur of the place and the literary links made it special. This is no hotel parking, but we parked in a public car park less than 5 minutes away. I think you can drive up to it to drop your luggage off but we just took ours straight from the car park no problem. It is a bit steep but all of Rye is a bit steep and higgledy piggledy so it might be an issue all round of you have mobility issues. We would definitely return and recommend to others, as long as you’re not too fussy about perfect decor etc.

We booked room 23 for our anniversary this past weekend, the staff are friendly and the breakfast was well organised and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately it was let down by a poor or no maintenance. I have included pictures for you to see , black mould on the shower celing covered with a white aerosol, lock completely missing on showed room door , chandelier missing and broken , slats in the blind missing . Broken bedside light and no lampshade at all on one side .I have included pictures. We were made to pay before we even saw the room .

Such fantastic staff at this small hotel. Rooms were rather dated but the bed linen and towels were all crisp and fresh. Small bar and lounge. Perfect location for exploring Rye. Breakfast was good and lots to choose from as you ordered the night before.

What a delightful hotel with old world charm. Wonderful views, cozy rooms and really the best staff in a hotel I’ve ever encountered. They are helpful and very pleasant. Walking distance from train station, shops and restaurants. Even walkable to the beaches if you don’t mind a 2.5 mile stroll. Busses run every hour if walking isn’t for you. All around a fabulous experience. Cannot wait to visit and stay at The Hope Anchor again.

Visited Rye for the first time in December and arrived after dark on a wet and windy evening. I didn't understand the the geography of the town and that the Hope Anchor was at the top of a hill and accessed by a steep cobbled street with a few sharp turns. We could park to unload our luggage but had to drive back down the same route to find a carpark, two way traffic! We were fortunate to find a space in a small one near the walking path back up to the hotel. We had to pay a small amount for the rest of that day but it is ESSENTIAL to go back later to pay for the following day unless you intend to return before 8 the following morning, the car parked beside us had a parking ticket by 9.30am. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. We had a suite which was warm and cosy despite the awful weather. It was clean but some of the furniture is very worn, especially the armchairs - one had a hole in the leather upholstery. However the bed was very comfortable and next morning we could appreciate the lovely view over the harbour. We had two televisions, one had good reception, the other didn't. We ordered breakfast the night before and arranged a time to dine so there wasn't a long wait for the cooked food. There is a table with extra things on it if you fancy something cold you hadn't ordered. I am not sure if we would stay again because of the location.
