There was a roof and it was protected from the wind and rain. In that sense, it functioned as a building. May 2023, one night, two meals included. I felt that 9,900 yen for one night with two meals was simply impossible for this inn. I was happy to pay 4,000 yen. The room was on the second floor. The floor felt like it would leak if you walked on it. The smell of toilets lingered throughout the building all day. The smell of toilets permeated the room. A cat, not sure if it was a stray or a pet, wandered around the building late at night. The bath was full of mold and moss. A slimy shower hose. The air conditioner was covered in dust and tar, and hadn't been cleaned for decades. The tatami mats were unkempt. The rice cracker futon was covered in dust. Some rooms had slanted floors. The owner, with his unkempt hair, was muttering to himself as he served dinner, and it was a half-cooked fish that didn't even hint at the name of Sado. I think it was cod, but it wasn't cooked through and still had a fishy smell. And then there was a cold potato croquette that you would see in a supermarket. It was so cold that I left half of it. The sashimi was obviously cut in a way and size that would be sold in a supermarket in a package. It was just one package divided into smaller portions. There was a small bowl of pork and bean sprouts fried with salt and pepper. I felt that this was not acceptable for an inn run by a fishing port. I was hoping for a local miso soup with a seashore scent, but it was a simple dish of frozen fish cakes cut in half, used as the filling, and dissolved in red miso. The thing that shocked me the most was the terrible taste of the white rice. It was shiny, but too soft. They probably used too much water when cooking it. This will give people from outside the prefecture the wrong impression. The rice had no grains at all. Above all, it hadn't been steamed after it was cooked, and it smelled like the water pipes. This is fatal for an inn in Echigo. After spending the night in the toilet smell, it was time for breakfast. I had some expectations because some reviews and blogs had mentioned grilled salmon fillets, but in reality, all I got was a thin slice of ham cut in half and placed on top of torn lettuce and onions, along with raw* and packaged natto. And the same old awful white rice. The cost price for dinner and breakfast combined was about 700 yen. An old inn would have a certain charm and that would make it more appealing, but this inn just felt unsanitary and negligent. From what I could see, the owner had no ill intentions, and this attitude will likely continue to change in the future. However, living in modern times, taking a vacation with the salary I earn from my daily work, paying 9,900 yen for this quality is not worth it. There are many other nice inns for this price. As I mentioned earlier, it was 4,000 yen including labor costs, bathing fees, food, and accommodation. The location alone is 5 stars, especially since it's right in front of the sea. Other than that, it's 0 stars. Even if you just want protection from the rain and wind, you probably won't want to pay this much.
