On arrival we were allocated a room in the block outside the main hotel on the second floor. (No lift to be found) The room was OK but felt a bit corporate and bland. The bathroom felt a bit unloved and in need of a refresh. All in all nothing really terrible just a bit blah. We had dinner in the bar area and it was fine with friendly team members and prompt attentive service. Breakfast however was the complete opposite. Welcome, help yourself to fruit juices etc. The toast machine is there...the coffee machine is there...here is your table, we will be back to take your breakfast order. Had to wait on the queue going down at the single coffee machine...which also serves the hot water for your tea. No worry I will have toast in the meantime. Slice and a half eaten and the coffee machine was free. 20 minutes waiting and still no breakfast order taken...whilst later arrivals had theirs taken. Went up for another coffee and my wife finally managed to catch someone and ask them to take our order. My wife told him I was at the coffee machine. He approached me."would you like to place a breakfast order" "I would love to place a breakfast order" "Well tell me what you want" "Full cumbrian, no beans, tomatoes or hash browns" Before I could describe how I wanted my egg he was gone. Sat down, drank my coffee, gave it another 10 minutes and got up and left with no sign of hot breakfast. Poor service all round. Please don't use "it was a busy breakfast service" as an excuse. It doesn't cut it...especially when you are asked to book a time for breakfast so they should know the timing of the footfall. On checking out we informed the receptionist about our experience at breakfast. She was most apologetic and handled it brilliantly. So a mixed bag.......room OK, dinner at the bar was good, breakfast...say no more Perhaps we just caught the breakfast team on a bad day 🤷♂️ but we will never find out.
