The Hotel is located only a couple of miles from the M6 Motorway. We stayed two separate nights while travelling to and back from Scotland on holiday. The rooms are clean, spacious, well furnished and quiet. The restaurant and bar provide excellent food and the breakfast is also excellent. The staff very welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. All in all highly recommended by us - a great haven to escape to after the dubious pleasures of the M6......it will now be our regular stopping off point when heading north of the border.

The staff were excellent- very helpful. We would particularly like to thank Josh and the young lady on reception with glasses (sorry, did not get her name) for sorting out some room service for us on a particularly busy Saturday evening. But the staff in all areas were very pleasant and eager to help. The hotel is very pleasant and well situated near the local railway station- really handy for a trip into Carlisle if you don’t fancy driving. Our room was a suite, lovely and clean and a good size. There were a few little things that we thought could be improved on but overall a lovely room with very comfortable bed and a good shower. The village is beautiful, peaceful and historic- we enjoyed a walk to the river, the parish church and the Priory Gatehouse. Local people are really pleasant and friendly. We would visit again!

Very nice, rather large british-style hotel with well-sized rooms & very comfortable beds. The staff were superbly friendly, the breakfast and pub food really good and the restaurant was excellent. We missed some tiny items like a second bedside-lamp, and the shower was slightly drizzly. All in all it‘s been a really good experience and we‘d come back should we ever come back to Wetheral. Thank you ❣️

Super hotel. Delicious food. Two different places to eat with different menus. Decor is modern and recently done. Place is immaculate. All staff are outstanding - special shout out to Maisy in the restaurant - so attentive and endlessly energetic!

Located in a lovely village with a nice garden. Really great to have access to the pool and jacuzzi but it is a leisure facility open to the public. The room and communal areas were well decorated and with good facilities. We had a meal in the bar which was good. We stopped over for one night on our way up to the highlands and it was ideally located and very comfortable. Really good breakfast with excellent choice and good quality ingredients. Would recommend

On arrival we were allocated a room in the block outside the main hotel on the second floor. (No lift to be found) The room was OK but felt a bit corporate and bland. The bathroom felt a bit unloved and in need of a refresh. All in all nothing really terrible just a bit blah. We had dinner in the bar area and it was fine with friendly team members and prompt attentive service. Breakfast however was the complete opposite. Welcome, help yourself to fruit juices etc. The toast machine is there...the coffee machine is there...here is your table, we will be back to take your breakfast order. Had to wait on the queue going down at the single coffee machine...which also serves the hot water for your tea. No worry I will have toast in the meantime. Slice and a half eaten and the coffee machine was free. 20 minutes waiting and still no breakfast order taken...whilst later arrivals had theirs taken. Went up for another coffee and my wife finally managed to catch someone and ask them to take our order. My wife told him I was at the coffee machine. He approached me."would you like to place a breakfast order" "I would love to place a breakfast order" "Well tell me what you want" "Full cumbrian, no beans, tomatoes or hash browns" Before I could describe how I wanted my egg he was gone. Sat down, drank my coffee, gave it another 10 minutes and got up and left with no sign of hot breakfast. Poor service all round. Please don't use "it was a busy breakfast service" as an excuse. It doesn't cut it...especially when you are asked to book a time for breakfast so they should know the timing of the footfall. On checking out we informed the receptionist about our experience at breakfast. She was most apologetic and handled it brilliantly. So a mixed bag.......room OK, dinner at the bar was good, breakfast...say no more Perhaps we just caught the breakfast team on a bad day 🤷‍♂️ but we will never find out.

Another lovely stay at the Crown. Rooms comfortable and bar area and food excellent. Lovely place to stay. Pool area is nice but it would be even better to have some sun beds to relax in instead of the tables as haven’t seen anyone eat or drink there. Comfy sun loungers in pool area would definitely add something to the spa area.
