The location was perfect. The accommodation was first class. The staff were friendly and helpful. But the restaurant was a joke. Whilst the food we had was ok, they were in the process of changing menus. This meant at least half of the choices were not available with no back up. The staff looked embarrassed every time someone asked for a dish only to be told that it wasn’t available anymore. My wife had Hake and new potatoes. Two tiny potatoes - she was ok with it as she hasn’t a big appetite. I would have sent it back. However, another customer asked for this dish and guess what, they were told that they didn’t have it anymore. But the kitchen was still preparing hake and chips. My guess is they’d run out of new potatoes!! When you pay £370 for two nights accommodation you expect the associated restaurant to be of a higher standard. Sadly not. We had booked a meal for both nights but cancelled the second one and went elsewhere locally. That meal was superb. St Austell - you need to have a better plan for when you decide to change your menus. We won’t be returning.

Excellent one-night stay whilst walking the Coast Path. Very comfortable room with spacious bathroom. Superb evening meal in the restaurant overlooking the harbour. Great breakfast selection too. Nice to choose something different to 'Full English' for a change! Staff were very helpful and genuinely friendly.

The Ship is in a wonderful position right on the harbour side. Our room and bathroom were spacious, comfortable and very well appointed, with a perfect view. The food was good and plentiful (with a good choice of gluten-free dishes including the fish and chips). The bar is welcoming and comfy, preserving the feel of a real thriving local with plenty of regulars as well as visitors. Above all, the staff are a delight: efficient, friendly, cheerful and infinitely helpful with nothing too much trouble.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay, all of the staff are lovely, and the food was excellent. We stayed for dinner too on two evenings. Great location right on the harbour front, such a pretty village. Our room however was small and at the back of the building, it was quite expensive to stay here, so we would have expected a larger room, there was also a bit of noise from an extractor fan out side the window.
