Well another great trip to Borovets Bulgaria, we stayed at the Rila Hotel again and the experience was fantastic. The staff were brilliant and our room was amazing with a scenic view out onto the slopes. The food was varied and plenty of it. I made good use or the pool and spa areas this time and if you timed it right they weren't too busy. The only criticism I have this year is the introduction of the guests having to leave the hotel at 1pm on their day of departure. This is fine if you have early flights, however if you are not flying until later in the evening there are issues. The Rila and Balkan holidays have come up with an idea to bus you out at 1pm and take you to a large shopping mall on the outskirts of Sofia for hours instead of you being able to relax and spend time in the resort enjoying the scenery, bars, restaurants which is what you came for, not spending half a day at a mall. I hope this option will change as my guests are thinking of other travel and hotel arrangements if they are being forced to comply with what is now in place. In one of the more peaceful spots of Borovets at the Rila Mountain, the renovated Lion Hotel Borovets offers an indoor pool and a free shuttle service to the lifts. Each hotel room features a TV, a minibar, a telephone and en-suite bathroom with bath tub. You can work off some excess energy in the fitness centre or relax in the sauna. Fine cuisine is served in the Lion Hotel's 2 restaurants, including a traditional 'Mehana' where you can combine food and drink with a Bulgarian show. Alternatively, the many fireplaces of the lobby bar make for an inviting sight after a day out in the mountains.
