Mata Rocks Resort

Don’t waste your money. There are better hotels out there that cost the same or even less and offer better services. When we arrived, the staff were bland and not very welcoming. The receptionist was never at the desk and was always at the back of the office. The rooms are visually appealing; however, the amenities need fixing. 1. No cell phone was provided in case of questions or emergencies. 2. Out of my 5-night stay, my room was only cleaned 3 times (no, I didn’t have a “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door). 3. There were no irons provided. I had to ask the bartender for a clothing iron. Upon receiving it, I noticed I wasn’t given an ironing board. So I had to resort to ironing on my bed (which did not work because the cord was too short and the outlet was too far away). I then spread a towel and ironed on the floor, which was even worse and resulted in my shirt becoming stained because my floor was dirty since room service didn’t clean my room the day before. 4. The lighting in the entire room is terrible. If you like taking pictures, I wouldn’t recommend booking Room 15. 5. The shower takes forever to get hot. 6. No liquid body soap was provided, and the bar soap was too small to last me 5 days. 7. There is no gym, and you can’t even go running or walking nearby in the evening or at night, as the area is usually very dark. I was also advised not to walk alone around that area because accidents have occurred previously. 8. I was not aware that they offered bikes; I only found out after I checked out. 9. The sargassum smell is terrible, especially in the mornings, but I won’t blame them for this as it is natural. Overall, it is a beautiful layout, and this resort has a lot of potential. However, it needs much improvement in its amenities and service.

Staff at Mata Rocks is exceptional, from the manager Ernesto to the bartenders and wait staff to the housekeeping staff. They helped with everything - cart rental, snorkel tours, restaurant recommendations... Room was very comfortable (except it needs reading lights for the beds.) Pool was fun and spotless, and the beach area was immaculate. Bonus points for having pickleball courts!

Nice view of the ocean. Large sandy area in front of resort. Very clean room. Nice refreshing pool. Ate at onsite restaurant which has a wonderful view of the ocean and the food was great. South of the busy town which makes for a quiet retreat.

This review is about the bar. It Mata ‘Rocks’ Everything about it was great, view, vibe, people, staff overall but James Johnston is a legend! One of the best bartenders ever! So playful and still attentive. A wonderful part of the San Pedro scene!

Beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony! Clean, well stocked room with plenty of amenities. Staff was warm, friendly, eager to help in any way they could. Couldn’t be happier with our stay at Mata Rocks!

Staff was very helpful. James was an entertaining bartender and Javier was on point with getting our food delivered to our room for us at the end of each day. Mata Rocks had a charming vibe, we feel so lucky to have found it!

Very limited pool side loungers, no bicycles as stated in amenities. Room smelled horrible like mildew

We had a great time at Mata Rocks. The staff in the office and in the restaurant/ bar were great! We enjoyed the great drinks and food also. We had an ocean view king room . The room was not large and lacked drawer space but it was a very nice room with a nice view from our balcony. Maya Rocks room prices are very reasonable compared to other hotels in the area. We look forward to returning to San Pedro and staying at Mata Rocks.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful prior to our stay connecting us with DMR golf carts ($50 per day including tax...they were great also and met us at and dropped us of at the Belize Express ferry terminal). The staff was helpful during our stay including Javier and James at the bar. The rooms are not large or small but comfortable and each upstairs room has a Caribbean Sea view. Each room has a hair dryer so we didn't need to bring our own and a microwave for heating water in the morning for hot tea. Drinks at the bar are affordable ($3.00 US per beer). The food from the kitchen is affordable and will feed you in a pinch but certainly is nothing to brag about and the service is slow. Sunrises are beautiful. Their little "beach" is small and could use a little love but we never saw the beach chairs full to capacious so if sunning is your thing there's room for you. Overall it was a great experience and we absolutely would return.
