We have lived in Florida long enough to know what hurricanes can do. But we had no idea how devastating Ian was to Sanibel. Our favorite store, Baileys? Gone. Lots of other stores and restaurants not open. It was a shock to see all the condo complexes along Gulf Drive all undergoing reconstruction, or in some places, gone. But the Island Inn? Makes you forget all that. Great staff, very comfortable rooms in the Matthews building, with full kitchen and wonderful balcony overlooking the Gulf. What more do you need? The beach remains what it has always been, one of the best in Florida, with absolutely amazing shells. And with some many fewer people staying on the island, more shells for the rest of us. No pool, no restaurant at the Inn? No problem. A wonderful stay, very relaxing, and so difficult to leave. An oasis of relaxation in a stress filled world, the Island Inn continues to provide the best as it has for years. Now, if they could get a pool rebuilt...
