Sipadan Water Village Mabul Island Semporna

Sipadan Water Village is a resort beautifully constructed with Bajau architectural design. Part of the Mabul Island is also home to groups of Bajau fishermen who have built their traditional palm thatched houses. The Bajau Laut, the world's only tribe of nomadic sea gypsies spends their lives on the water. Over the years, some have entered a transition from sea nomadic to sedentary village life at a former major anchorage site such as Mabul. The entire resort is built over water on stilts made of Belian Wood commonly called ironwood, laid in certain points so as to minimise damage to the existing reef. In its design, Sipadan Water Village has achieved near utopia in its over-the-water layout, splendid water cottage accommodations with flowered sidewalks, wonderfully prepared Asian and Continental cuisine, and impeccable and personable service. Sipadan Water Village international staffs of dive guides and instructors pride themselves on knowing the intricacies of their reefs and willing to share their macro subject secrets with anyone interested.Show More

We felt very good for a week of diving into n a group of 6 friends. We liked the food and the friendly atmosphere. Rooms are generally well maintained even if the whole resort show sign of the time and would need some renovations. The diving center has a god with good guides, thanks Mar, but could be improved as well with minor attentions and good maintenance. The only thing that kind of ruined the whole experience is the outrageous currency change rate applied at the reception, better change money before arriving

The resort is getting very tired. The location is beautiful but the entire facility need some investment. This also applies to the dive centre. The rental equipment needs to be updated. Saying that the staff are great and trying their hardest. Sadly the little island of Mabul is a mess. There doesn't seem to be any garbage program so the beaches and water has lots of plastic floating. The government and resorts should hire the locals to clean up the beaches before it is too late.

The staffs are sincere, helpful and charming. Their warm hospitality makes our stay pleasure and relaxed. The resort is less crowded, and less luxury compared to other nearby resorts, but the room is clean & nice view, and the best is the friendly staffs that always go beyond your needs. We are being welcome and farewell with warm hospitality by all their staffs. Divers are patient and good photographer. It is suitable for friends & couple or family without young children.

Stayed there for 6D on 23-Jun-2023 and below are my GOOD and BAD experiences. Overall NOT RECOMMENDED. BAD Experiences: 1. A/C Not Cold - The room is big with huge louver sliding doors and windows. Due to that the A/C cannot keep up. So, as good as NO A/C. 2. Salty Water - Fresh water from tap is salty. Just imagine brushing your teeth with it. 3. Every Room Provided with ONLY Two (2) Jugs of Water Per Day - This is the first resort that I had stayed in that has this ruling. So ended up buying my own drinking water throughout my 6-days stay. 4. Creaking Walkways - The entire resort is built on stilts. Most of the planks that line the walkways are loose, thus creaks a lot. Feel unsafe. 5. Food Spread is Limited - 2 types of veg and 2 types of meat and some side dishes. 6. Food Quantity is Insufficient - Food always runs out and have to wait to get it refill. Serves only a small bowl of lettuce (for salad, I think) which is good for one person. 7. Condiments - Serve porridge with ONLY salted eggs. Normally, most hotels serve with soya sauce, spring onions, fish with black beans, fried onions and pickled lettuce. In this hotel only porridge with salted eggs. 8. Ants crawling all over sugar on the buffet bar. 9. Moldy Bathroom GOOD Experience: 1. Room size is huge but UNFORTUNATELY as good as NO A/C 2. Diving is Sipadan is the greatest. 3. Staff are friendly.

We had booked this resort for diving. The overall is quite old but well function. My room A/C was not too cold because there are a lot of louvers. Bathroom was OK. Surprisingly, the restaurant was very good. Chef prepared food well cook and delicious. Dive Center is OK. Beware of sea snake in the evening.

It was a moderate experience with food and accommodation. The dive sites here were nice with loads of fish and sea creatures. Pricewise, it was not too expensive to stay here comparing to other dive resort. They have been doing well to preseve the sea and animals here.

We spent 2 nights here and even though I was crippled with a chronic back issue, the stay was exceptional. We were welcomed onto the jetty of the resort by the whole team with Beng leading the way. The resort only had one other couple in it, yet what really impressed me, was the work going on as the team wanted to maintain standards. Rooms were clean and well kept, air con excellent, but the food simply is the standout here. Kak Kak in the kitchen and her team just blew me away with the time spent on meals, when they could have just gone through the motions with limited guests. Breakfast was a fusion of Western and Asian dishes, lunch and dinner ranged from local dishes with a strong emphasis on seafood platters which I loved. I suffered badly as a result of my health, but I will go back to say thank you for the amazing service and really get to enjoy SWV as it should be enjoyed. Outstanding.
