"AU YU Room is beautiful and offers a lovely sea view. The room was clean and well-maintained overall. One tip for future guests: wear the in-house slippers, as there was quite a bit of sand on the floor. The location is convenient, with many restaurants within walking distance. However, the nearest laundry service is on the other side of the city, so you'll need to take a Grab if you require laundry facilities. The only downside was the security deposit of RM200, which felt rather high. The deposit is only refunded after the staff completes a room inspection during check-out. Overall, it was a pleasant stay with a great view and good dining options nearby."

"We really really enjoyed our stay in Lato Lato. Location and view is extremely superb. Many other resorts don’t have this unblocked view of the sea. There were so many starfish fish turtles just down stairs of our room it was amazing. Also there is a balcony in every room which is a steal deal for the money. For the money it’s worth it. Their snrkelong and scuba tours are also very reasonable The cons are hotel staff is not professional you need to ping them quite a lot to get to do basic stuff. Most people do not understand English but the reception lady can speak so that is okay. There are really no amenities like food snacks. We brought our own snacks. The food is up to each s preference. One thing was really bad they ran out of snorkelling gear. So we couldn’t snorkel the time we stayed there which is very bad cause they said they only keep 10 snorkels for the whole resort. But the staff made decorations for my bf s b day and also danced with us so they are simple and happy people just need some more responsibility. Overall for the price I think it’s really good stay if are okay to give up the cons :) We will be coming back for sure!"

"Located outside of Semporna in a quiet area the villas are comfortable, clean and spacious. The morning and evening shuttle bus takes you into and back from central Semporna where you get the island hopping / hiking / snorkelling / diving excursions. Personally we much preferred staying a little outside the town rather than in the centre which can be busy and overwhelming. The proprietor was very helpful in arranging the shuttles, provided a plug adapter for our use while there, and info about Semporna. Nice touch to leave an umbrella on the balcony when rain was forecast too. If you want to travel outside of the shuttle bus times the a Grab taxi is around 10myr one way."

"Location is 10/10, very private, quiet and beautiful. Great snorkeling, beautiful coral reefs. Lots of marine life. Special experience, not possible to find in many places. Food is ok - limited variation. Lack some amenities that you would normally expect in a 5-star hotel. Only possible to swim in one designated area, which is not ideal, but the price you pay for staying in a pristine and protected marine environment. Not a lot of activities offered. Particularly disappointing having to pay at least double price for the Bohey Dulang hike - makes you feel exploited for not having other options, rather than priviliged for staying literally 200 meters from the jetty."

Mabul Water Bungalows
"Our stay at Mabul Island Hotel was truly comfortable, offering a genuine taste of the island's scenery and the joy of diving. It was incredibly relaxing! However, a significant issue arose with this booking through Trip.com. The boat departure times for getting to the island were hidden in the order notes, specifically in the very last supplementary remarks, which most people wouldn't notice. So, upon arriving in Semporna town, we discovered that there are only three boats to Mabul Island daily: one around 10 AM, another around 12 PM, and the last at 4:30 PM. We had no choice but to wait for the 4:30 PM boat, meaning we didn't reach the hotel until after 5 PM, essentially wasting an entire day. The hotel cost is very high, including three meals and diving, so it's best to get to the island as early as possible to maximize your entertainment time. Otherwise, staying at such an expensive hotel isn't worth it. Secondly, you absolutely must dive in Sipadan. For scuba diving, you need an AOW certification, but even snorkeling is stunning – it's a true diver's paradise. Diving in Sipadan requires advance application as there's a daily limit on the number of divers. Thirdly, the three meals provided by the hotel were mediocre and lacked variety. For such a high hotel price, the food quality should be improved. The hotel's value for money is indeed just average. Fourthly, the Bajau people paddle their boats daily, even under the water villas, to sell seafood. The seafood is delicious, and bargaining is key – you can usually get it for a third of the asking price. However, the hotel's processing fee is a bit pricey at 60 MYR/kg. But the taste was pretty good. I love to travel but rarely write reviews; this time, it's because I encountered a pitfall and wanted to create a 'guidebook' for others planning to visit Semporna, to give them a heads-up. Overall, the water quality around Mabul Island Hotel is excellent, and it's perfect for photos. If you have a bit of a budget, it's definitely worth booking."

"first is the floor, it is sticky, it is sticky in the room and also at the gathering or public area where we take our meals. Next is the issue with the toilet, the shower head is broken, it's leaking and the water is too strong and thin, it is hurting me when i try to bathe. Thirdly, the floor mat is dirty and too thin, it is not absorbing water as it should. Fourth, the floor also has a lot of dust and sand. Fifth, the hotel does not have enough electrical plug, we only have two plugs and it is on the most left of the bed, it is better if it is in the middle of both beds. Sixth, the air conditioner is too weak for a room with 3 people, it is hot even at night. Seventh, the music is too loud, i cannot even rest properly at night, you can prepare earplugs at least. Eighth, the gathering or public area is too hot because there is no fan, please prepare some ceiling fans so guests can dine properly. Ninth, should have a table for a big room at least. the floor is wide enough, but it is so dirty that we do not dare to sit on the floor to play games or cards, we also do not want to play games or cards at the gathering or public area because it is too hot and loud. Tenth, rubbish in the sea or hotel area, i saw a huge pile of rubbish such as bottled water, food container, plastic bag just floating in the sea in the resort. Here are some good things about the hotel, first, very nice scenery, the water is nice and clean in the morning. Secondly, the balcony area for each room is nice because we can look at the scenery while sitting on the chair and resting. Thirdly, the staff is very friendly and very responsible, they do their work fast, they carry our luggage, refill food fast, and are very nice. Fourthly, the overall atmosphere of the hotel is very comfortable. Fifth, the food is ok, breakfast is ok, it is not the best but it is edible, the dinner is the best, and the seafood is a very nice touch. Sixth, we can dry our wet cloth on the balcony too. Overall i give it a 2 out of 5 stars. The price of your hotel does not match the pros and cons of your hotel. I would not want to stay in the hotel another day if the problems still stay the same. Please do your best to improve better. This is my honest review as a Malaysian."

"Traveled to Kota Kinabalu, Semporna, Malaysia, with my girlfriend. After reading the hotel reviews, which were really excellent, I booked three consecutive nights here. The stay experience was indeed great. The breakfast at this place is plentiful, and the seafood dinner, including the cooking service, is also very good. Although it's a bit far from the jetty, they provide shuttle service back and forth between the jetty and the hotel. They even arrange transportation if you want to go to seafood restaurants or markets. The rooms are clean and well-equipped. Overall, compared to other hotels, this one clearly has an advantage. I didn't find the owner overly enthusiastic, but the service was definitely on point, especially the young staff who were very warm and proactive. I highly recommend this as your top choice when you visit."

"1️⃣ The location is about 1.2km from the pier, a 20-minute walk or a hotel shuttle bus. However, the road there is very bad, with no sidewalks, making it somewhat dangerous at night. 2️⃣ The hotel is located in a courtyard. Check-in and hotel staff all work in the courtyard. If someone is talking outside, you can hear them inside, as there is virtually no soundproofing. Similarly, conversations inside can be heard by passersby outside. Those seeking privacy and quiet should think twice. 3️⃣ The rooms are very basic. There are no curtains, only Roman blinds. The bathroom doesn't even have curtains. 😰 If you stay on the first floor, there's practically no privacy at night. Why didn't they even bother with curtains? It's really unpleasant. 4️⃣ It's very noisy at night. There are all sorts of insect and bird chirps, motorcycles passing by, and a constant, inexplicable mechanical humming outside my room. It was incredibly noisy. Then, at 4 AM, they started chanting prayers through a loudspeaker next door. I basically spent the whole night surrounded by noise; it was torture! 😩 5️⃣ Breakfast was just an egg and a bowl of noodles. After that, you could go island hopping. In short, I wouldn't recommend staying here at this price. It's just too noisy. The most important thing about staying in a hotel is rest, and the room lacks privacy without curtains. It rains frequently here, and there's a musty, watery smell on the first floor. It's a very average hotel, not worth the price. Personally, I think if you're going to be noisy anyway, you might as well stay near the pier."
