"It's been a week since I returned from Semporna, but my heart is still lingering in the palm groves of Pudina Resort! I have to write down my thoughts while they're fresh, to give those who are planning to visit a reference. First, let's talk about the environment – it's truly unique! It's not like the typical overwater bungalows; instead, it's nestled within a forest of tall palm trees. As the car drove in, we instantly transitioned from the continuous road to a tranquil garden. Our individual cottage was hidden among the trees, offering excellent privacy. Initially, I was worried that these standalone cottages might be stuffy, have poor sound insulation, or attract insects. But I was pleasantly surprised! Excellent insulation and soundproofing: The housekeeper mentioned that the entire house is made of integrated steel-plastic material. The roof and wall materials are quite impressive; even with strong sun outside during the day, the room quickly cooled down with the AC on, with no stuffiness at all. It was incredibly quiet at night, with sound insulation exceeding expectations. I only heard the rustling of palm leaves in the wind (not ocean waves!), and even as a light sleeper, I could sleep soundly until morning. Extremely clean, zero insect disturbance: I must highly praise this point! I'm super afraid of bugs, but both the inside and outside of the cottage were meticulously maintained. The floors were perfectly fine for walking barefoot, the bathroom was dry with no trace of mold, and the screens were securely sealed. In my three-day stay, I genuinely didn't encounter any 'uninvited guests,' which is quite rare for a jungle environment. The service was thoughtfully subtle. Before check-in, the customer service reached out via WeChat and answered all our questions. What was most reassuring was our housekeeper, Jiayi. From arrival to departure, she was always available on WeChat for anything, and her responses were incredibly prompt, all in Chinese, which was such a relief! She wasn't just professionally polite; she was more like a local friend. She proactively reminded us that "the lights on the forest path are a bit dim at night, so you might want to bring a flashlight for a walk." When she saw us sunburnt after sea fishing, she brought us aloe vera gel and quietly had the kitchen send up two extra glasses of iced watermelon juice. These small, thoughtful gestures were truly heartwarming."

"Since there's no public transport to the island, you need to book your hotel in advance. After booking, email the hotel or contact them via WhatsApp, as they don't immediately see reservations made through Trip.com. The hotel needs to arrange a spot on the boat from Semporna to Mabul, which only runs once a day at 9 AM. So, even if you've paid for the hotel, you can't get there without this transfer. We somehow managed to find a boat and paid $200 (there might be other options, we spent a long time running around the pier looking, so I'm sharing my own experience). You need to book at least one day in advance. Food is served three times a day (rice, chicken, vegetables). The room is small (not 30 sq.m, but 14-15 sq.m). We had one with a balcony; there are also rooms without balconies. There's air conditioning, and the hotel is built on stilts over the water. The room doesn't have toothbrushes, toothpaste, or toilet paper (to protect the environment due to disposal limitations); only towels are provided. You can't swim directly from the villa. However, there's a beautiful view – large turtles swim right nearby, and fish are visible from the hotel. For snorkeling, you need to take a boat for 5 minutes to the reef wall, which is very close. It's a beautiful, vibrant reef with fish, turtles, and starfish. The hotel has its own boat, which is very convenient, for an extra fee. On the island, there's a beach (both a clean, paid one and a public one), and shops. All payments are cash-only. Local fishermen sell their catch from their boats, which you can buy and have prepared at the hotel restaurant for an additional charge."

They have a butler who speaks Chinese and offer scheduled shuttle services. The breakfast spread was rich and tasted pretty good, and the seafood in the a la carte menu was fresh and flavorful. The hotel's design is unique, with beautiful garden landscaping and an elegant environment, perfect for photos at every turn. Five-star rating! I'll definitely bring my family back next time~"

Everything was arranged meticulously, and the guide was very detailed, so I never had to worry about getting lost or going the wrong way. I also received timely reminders at every step, truly experiencing a butler-style service. The overwater bungalow's location was good. It was a bit further from the pier, which was perfect because bungalows too close to the pier can have issues with trash in the water. Here, you could directly see the coral and small fish on the seabed – there were so many fish! Snorkeling was excellent, and we even saw sea turtles. The local staff were all very friendly, and the evenings were lively with them playing guitar and singing. The overwater bungalow was newly built and clean. They even set up a simple extra bed for our child, which was a nice touch! The facilities were decent, considering it's over the water. But the views were unbeatable – lying there watching the sunset and seeing fish and starfish in the water below was absolutely beautiful."

"1️⃣ The location is about 1.2km from the pier, a 20-minute walk or a hotel shuttle bus. However, the road there is very bad, with no sidewalks, making it somewhat dangerous at night. 2️⃣ The hotel is located in a courtyard. Check-in and hotel staff all work in the courtyard. If someone is talking outside, you can hear them inside, as there is virtually no soundproofing. Similarly, conversations inside can be heard by passersby outside. Those seeking privacy and quiet should think twice. 3️⃣ The rooms are very basic. There are no curtains, only Roman blinds. The bathroom doesn't even have curtains. 😰 If you stay on the first floor, there's practically no privacy at night. Why didn't they even bother with curtains? It's really unpleasant. 4️⃣ It's very noisy at night. There are all sorts of insect and bird chirps, motorcycles passing by, and a constant, inexplicable mechanical humming outside my room. It was incredibly noisy. Then, at 4 AM, they started chanting prayers through a loudspeaker next door. I basically spent the whole night surrounded by noise; it was torture! 😩 5️⃣ Breakfast was just an egg and a bowl of noodles. After that, you could go island hopping. In short, I wouldn't recommend staying here at this price. It's just too noisy. The most important thing about staying in a hotel is rest, and the room lacks privacy without curtains. It rains frequently here, and there's a musty, watery smell on the first floor. It's a very average hotel, not worth the price. Personally, I think if you're going to be noisy anyway, you might as well stay near the pier."

"This newly renovated hotel was such a lucky find! The room was spotless and brand new, and the bedding was super clean, just like what you'd find back home. "There are a lot of Chinese tourists visiting Semporna. The town is indeed underdeveloped, and the overall environmental hygiene is just mediocre. However, the island hopping tours offer incredibly beautiful scenery on each island, and the diving experience is also excellent. Many hotels in town have a rustic, guesthouse feel, yet during the Chinese New Year, they charge prices comparable to 5-star hotels. This particular hotel's advantages are its proximity to both jetties. The hygiene is good, and the service is very responsive and accommodating. The proprietress is from Northeast China; she's straightforward and efficient. When a vacant room became available, she immediately upgraded us to a larger one. However, the downsides are poor soundproofing, noisy air conditioning outdoor units, and a lingering smell from recent renovations. The breakfast also leaves much to be desired and needs improvement."
