"To be honest, Semporna is just a small town. The hotel's location is pretty good, but there are two hotels with the same name in the area, and the driver dropped us off at the old one. We had to drag our luggage to the new hotel. There are two breakfast locations, both are quite mediocre and the portions aren't enough. For hotel service, you have to remember to press the 'make up room' light, otherwise, they really won't clean your room. The room isn't very big, but thankfully it's not noisy. The pictures show the view from the hotel balcony and a distant shot of the hotel from the opposite side."

"Environment: The room was small and quite old, like a small guesthouse in a third-tier city in China. You could see the sea from the room, though. The bathroom was tiny.
Service: The front desk was very slow when checking us in; people who arrived after us were already done. It said they offered Chinese service, but it was just a tiny bit, really just a tiny bit. However, they did provide breakfast vouchers which you could redeem on the first floor.
Hygiene: When we pulled back the covers, the bedding was wrinkled. We initially thought it hadn't been changed, but even after they supposedly changed it, it was still wrinkled. Maybe that's just how it is."

Great
XXingfuxianghuaerdewoOur group booked four rooms. Overall, for the price in this small town, it's pretty good value for money. We stayed here last year too. Previously, we had shared bathrooms, but this time, wanting a private bathroom for the family, we opted for the bunk beds with private baths. However, the first-floor rooms weren't as comfortable as the second-floor ones. If you have a choice, I'd recommend avoiding the tatami-style beds; we found a lot of ants under ours, but the staff were excellent and dealt with it very quickly. If I were to choose again, I'd definitely go for a second-floor room. It was very, very, very clean~!
GGuest UserOur stay at the Sagittarius Water Bungalow was absolutely fantastic! From our butler Xiao Gu to all the staff on the water bungalows and even the owners, everyone was incredibly nice. The rooms are equipped with smart Xiaomi home devices, clean and tidy. Opening the curtains reveals the beautiful 'jellyfish sea,' and the scenery is simply captivating. The food at the water bungalows is also delicious; breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner are all included in the price. Airport transfers and boat rides to the island are also covered, making it excellent value for money! We stayed for five days and four nights and didn't want to leave. The atmosphere on the island is also great, with KTV and song requests every night – the owner and his wife sing really well, by the way! The water bungalows offer a lot of entertainment, including sea fishing, snorkeling, glass-bottom boat tours, and drone photography. The local staff (Xiao Hei) are also happy to help with photos 📸. You can even get your diving certification and go on island-hopping day trips, keeping you thoroughly entertained. We came to Semporna specifically to get our diving certification, and the water bungalow's own dive shop is highly recommended. The instructors are very responsible and dedicated. I'd like to thank Xiao Li and Instructor Mohd Rizal Baba Selleh. The prices are fair, and the teaching focuses on the safety and skills of the students, which is very reassuring. The dive shop owner's wife is also super nice. All in all, this trip was incredibly worthwhile, and we'll definitely be back! I'll also be recommending it to my friends and family 😊
RRay-Guo CLThis was my first time staying in an overwater bungalow, and I had high expectations. The best part of this overwater bungalow experience was the customer service staff; they answered all my questions and even helped arrange a private car to the airport. The scenery from the overwater bungalow was beautiful. I booked a detached overwater villa, but there was no ladder from the room directly into the water. The air conditioning ran all afternoon, yet the room remained hot. I initially thought it was due to the intense afternoon sun, but it still didn't cool down at night, and the AC was noisy. I was stuck between turning it on or off. The bedding wasn't comfortable, and I barely slept all night. As for the 'meals included,' I didn't have high hopes for the food anyway, but I at least expected it to be clean and fresh. The seafood consisted only of shrimp and crab, and frankly, the meat tasted far from fresh. The water had impurities, and the dishes had stains. For over 2000 a night, it was absolutely not worth it – a complete waste of money. The only thing I can praise is the customer service staff. I didn't take any pictures because it wasn't worth wasting my phone's memory.
KKeqituPros: Beautiful, decent food, friendly and attentive service. Cons: Air conditioning wasn't very strong, water quality was a bit off, it takes quite a long boat ride to get to the island, and there were quite a few small bugs (which, by the way, are likely an issue at other overwater bungalows too). The photos are unedited, just quick snaps taken by opening the door to eat. In person, this place absolutely rivals other top-tier ocean views. Also, if you stay here, don't just book one night.
MM532750****My stay at 'Fairy Tale Wonderland Resort' in Semporna completely exceeded my expectations. Let's start with transportation: the hotel offers a shuttle service that picks you up directly from the airport, which was a huge convenience. The driver was incredibly friendly and even gave us tips on where to exchange money and reliable dive shops.
The accommodation was fantastic. The room had wooden floors and a high ceiling, and it felt clean and dry. The bed was super soft, and the pillows weren't flat at all. The big sea turtle plushie on the bed was absolutely adorable. Both the fan and air conditioning were quiet at night, ensuring a very restful sleep. The courtyard felt like a small garden with coconut trees, flower walls, and colorful signs. It was incredibly relaxing to just sit on the woven hanging chair and zone out; every photo I took turned out beautifully.
The food deserves a special mention. For dinner, we ordered steamed crab, mantis shrimp, soy-sauce steamed fish, and a plate of water spinach. The freshness was undeniable, and the cooking was perfectly executed, bringing out the natural flavors of the seafood without being overly salty or greasy.
Overall, the hotel's attention to detail in service was excellent: convenient transfers, clean and comfortable rooms, and high-quality food. If you're looking for a relaxing holiday in Semporna, I highly recommend staying here.
TTrippingtheuniverseSemporna is an interesting place to visit, with several islands surrounded by coral reefs for snorkeling and diving, more beautiful than many other snorkeling spots worldwide. Staying at this hostel instead of moving to an island resort is a good way to budget. And not only that, the fish market in Semporna is the most incredible one I have seen, seafood like lobsters, large shrimps, crabs so fresh, not even the one at Kota Kinabalu can be compared good as it was too. The DZ hostel lady staff was very helpful and can arrange for island trips at a reasonable price. The dorms are separated into boys and girls, something I truly appreciate. The bathrooms faced the afternoon sun, so they were dried easily and kept clean. Laundry by machine was offered free, a super plus for swimmers. The hostel also offered local Malay snack food for breakfast, and coffee or tea were always available. To be honest, it's a good budget place to stay while splurging on the island tours. It's a bit sad that no cooking is allowed here, even though there was a kitchen. Sad because the seafood mentioned above was so available. The facade of the building is nothing to boast about, and like many places, the external (streets, pavement, eyc) can be a mess. That should not deter visiting this part of the world mainly because the sea in this area is astoundingly replenished with marine life.
GGuest UserThe room was clean, and my stay was comfortable and cool. There are plenty of dining options around the hotel. The owner was very warm and attentive, offering lots of advice on excursions. Many activities could be booked directly at the front desk. The owner even helped arrange my airport transfer. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.
GGuest UserThe first room I was given was really bad and old. I was actually planning on changing hotels and contacted Trip.com. After that, the hotel gave me a much nicer room, so I ended up staying for five days. Semporna is still beautiful though!
AAnonymous UserI think I might be the first Korean visitor :) I am from Malaysia but it was a beautiful experience in East Malaysia, which was my first visit. For safety, I recommend that you understand the territorial disputes and historical background of East Malaysia. You will need to communicate with the local resort through email and WhatsApp, so if you have difficulty speaking English, you can get information about boats and resorts with plenty of time.
MM58361****I think the hotel, though a bit old, is very well-managed. The breakfast is delicious, and for the price, it offers great value for money. My stay felt clean and comfortable.
