HHuaguoshandianbaohouFive-star review, highly recommend Barracuda Den! Semporna is notorious for its dirty and messy accommodations, but Barracuda Den has no real competition at its price point. The location is excellent, just 700 meters from Hai Feng Pier, making it a 10-minute walk to catch boats for island hopping. Right outside the door, you'll find all sorts of food options, which is super convenient. It's safe, with card access required for entry and exit. It's clean; I even saw staff doing a thorough cleaning. Every time you close the door to the guesthouse, you can completely disconnect yourself from the chaotic and dirty environment outside. The guesthouse offers free toast, instant noodles, and cooking utensils. As a fan of simple meals, it was great to have fried eggs, toasted bread, and hot tea every day! The washing machine is free to use, which is a big plus since many accommodations in Semporna charge for laundry. The staff are very friendly, and the seafood restaurant they recommended next door was also very affordable. Absolutely no complaints!

GGuest UserI forgot to take pictures of the hotel interior; it has both pros and cons.
1. My AirAsia flight was delayed, and I arrived at the hotel at 8:30 PM. The good thing was that the receptionist spoke fluent Chinese, and there was no deposit required. The hotel only has two floors and no elevator, but staff were always there to help with luggage, whether you were going up or down!
2. The family room I booked was very spacious, with a small balcony and plenty of clothes racks, making it very convenient to dry clothes. There were also two soft beanbag chairs, a large table with plenty of space, air conditioning, a safe, and all the necessary disposable amenities. The slippers weren't disposable, so I didn't use them.
3. They changed the disposable amenities daily. If you need housekeeping for a consecutive stay, you can turn on the light outside your door; otherwise, just turn on the ”Do Not Disturb” button, and they will bring the new amenities to your door. They are very meticulous in their cleaning! We always left our suitcases open when we went out, and put valuables in the safe. They put a security camera at the door before cleaning, then removed it afterward, which made us feel quite safe…
4. I was worried about noise at night, but there's a restaurant downstairs where many locals gather in the evenings, but it wasn't as noisy as I expected. Once the balcony door is closed, there's almost no problem. Regarding the issue of noisy car chases at night, I think there are some. If you stay in town, it's hard to avoid, but we stayed for three days, and only one day did we experience this problem, around 10 PM, with a few intermittent bursts of speed. Actually, after a day of sightseeing, we fell asleep almost immediately.

GGuest UserLocation is centrally placed in the Town and with that comes some annoyances: street noise, stray fighting dogs and loud neighbours, including some guests who ignore the ” from 10pm quiet rule ” ear plugs are essential.
Outdoor shoes to be removed at the front door.
100Riggit is taken at checkin and reimbursed on check-out.
I had the double bunk bed room. Comfortable wide bed with bedside lamp ,a bonus. No wardrobes,could do with more hanging hooks. Shared bathrooms. There were three showers and three toilets which I never had to queue for one. Each shower room and toilet was supplied with flipflops. Loads of 'do's' and 'don'ts” notices everywhere with threats of heavy monetary penalties.
AC worked well, I hate hard floors so used soft slippers in my room.
Everywhere is spotlessly clean in the common areas as mentioned, although my room wasn't or rubbish emptied in the three days I was there.
The kitchenette was adequate for hot drinks but someone else was cooking breakfast in the microwave. Resident cat's still present.
The bus terminal for Tawau is about 50metres down the road,extremely convenient!

MM532750****My stay at 'Fairy Tale Wonderland Resort' in Semporna completely exceeded my expectations. Let's start with transportation: the hotel offers a shuttle service that picks you up directly from the airport, which was a huge convenience. The driver was incredibly friendly and even gave us tips on where to exchange money and reliable dive shops.
The accommodation was fantastic. The room had wooden floors and a high ceiling, and it felt clean and dry. The bed was super soft, and the pillows weren't flat at all. The big sea turtle plushie on the bed was absolutely adorable. Both the fan and air conditioning were quiet at night, ensuring a very restful sleep. The courtyard felt like a small garden with coconut trees, flower walls, and colorful signs. It was incredibly relaxing to just sit on the woven hanging chair and zone out; every photo I took turned out beautifully.
The food deserves a special mention. For dinner, we ordered steamed crab, mantis shrimp, soy-sauce steamed fish, and a plate of water spinach. The freshness was undeniable, and the cooking was perfectly executed, bringing out the natural flavors of the seafood without being overly salty or greasy.
Overall, the hotel's attention to detail in service was excellent: convenient transfers, clean and comfortable rooms, and high-quality food. If you're looking for a relaxing holiday in Semporna, I highly recommend staying here.

QQIQINNNI brought my family here at the last minute. It was surprisingly good! The place is clean, and it's only a 5-minute walk to Jeti Semporna. It's really worth it for a short stay. Sorry, no relevant photos, I forgot to take pictures of the room.

GGuest UserI had a fantastic stay at Sunshine in Semporna! This hotel is brand new and impeccably clean, which made my stay incredibly comfortable. Most importantly, they have a elevator. The staff were exceptionally helpful and went above and beyond—when I requested a change from my booked room (without a balcony), they kindly upgraded me without any hassle.
While the hotel isn’t right by the sea or jetty pier, it’s just a short 10-minute walk away, which I found very manageable. As a solo traveler, safety was a top priority, and I felt completely secure walking around the area, even at 9 PM. The location is a huge plus—it’s in the heart of Semporna, surrounded by gold shops and plenty of eateries serving delicious local food. I actually preferred this spot over the pier area, which can feel crowded and has many homeless children asking for money or food.
The only minor downsides were that the hot water wasn’t quite hot enough and there was some barking from dogs at night. However, the dogs were very friendly and didn’t bother me for food, so it wasn’t a big issue.
Overall, Sunshine Bouquet Hotel is a gem for solo travelers or anyone looking for a clean, safe, and convenient stay in Semporna. Highly recommend!

KKistinaDon't go if you don't have to. First of all, you may not find anyone late and leave early, and the staff is sometimes not there. Secondly, one morning, the faucet in the washbasin was out of water, but fortunately there was in the bathroom. Again, there was a problem with the door of the room. I didn't find a problem two days before I lived. I thought it was locked. Later, I found that the height could be opened... You will know it by looking at the photo.
All of these are very delayed. However, Semporna Town itself is like this, and other homes are probably not much better.

GGuest UserReally basic hotel. All of the other reviews are correct about the state of it but the location is perfect!!! So close to the best restaurant area and by the water. I would highly recommend staying in this area of semporna. Just know that you're getting a basic room.

SShanyouzhenI chose this hotel for a one-night stay before heading to the overwater bungalow the next day. Although the room facilities were a bit old, they were very clean. There's a convenience store right downstairs, and it's very close to the pier. The sea breeze was a bit loud at night, but the breakfast was excellent and plentiful.
