Garrison Hotel

Excellent stay at the Garrison, small but perfectly functional room

Is literally built into what was the Guard House (military prison) of a Victorian barracks in Hillsborough suburb of Sheffield; that was converted in a supermarket; shops & offices. Short walk to Hillsborough SuperTram stop. Is a bar / restaurant & another breakfast room with decent choices. Rooms are more like a motel; on 2 floors with doors opening to outside. Not bad size and nicely decorated. Staff friendly and helpful

I loved the building! So much history! But our room wasn't the cleanest. And parking wasn't very close to our room.

Rooms seemed very outdated and plug sockets are not convenient, staff are friendly however when i was eating my evening meal one particular male member of staff with a moustache I think he was a manager was very rude towards the other members of staff what was off putting

Lovely staff, especially the bar staff. The two ladies were very helpful and friendly . The food was good and rooms nice and clean.

The rooms are OK but need refurbishing. There’s meant to be a wireless phone charger but it didn’t work. The heating was on too high and the bathroom became a swimming pool as soon as the shower was used because the glass door didn’t stop water from going all over the floor. This is made worse because the toilet is right beside this glass door so if you need to use the toilet after someone has been in a shower watch out. There are tea and coffee makings in the room but no decaf coffee to be seen anywhere. The breakfast was dire. On the first morning there were no croissants and the good food was swimming in fat and grease. My room mate had the veggie breakfast and left it after a mouthful of hash brown. I had the omelette but it was tiny and burnt. Again no decaf coffee to be found anywhere. The second morning there were croissants but my room mate avoided breakfast. I risked scrambled eggs on toast (not on the menu but I asked anyway) and they were reasonable (but had too much pepper). The layout isn’t great for anyone with mobility issues. The hotel is more motel-like and the breakfast area is up a flight of stairs. You can get in through the bar but that needs you to go into reception first and ask them to open the door. When I tried this on the first morning there was a sign that said “back in 5 minutes”! Even so, you have to walk up quite a steep ramp, avoiding any parked cars and the up road to get to the bar. I realise Sheffield is hilly but some other solution needs to be found really. I come here because an event I attend is hosted here. I wouldn’t choose it otherwise.

Had our wedding reception at the Garrison on 16th March 2024. Had the most amazing time. The staff were wonderful throughout the evening and the food was amazing. Stayed at the hotel overnight and the rooms are spotless and comfortable. Will definitely book again for any future events. Thanks to everyone for making it an amazing day/night.

Converted guardroom for Hillsborough Barracks. Needs upgrading to more modern facilities. Shower old fashioned but hot water when required. Outside light permanently on, better if on a sensor. Window not closed properly, draught & noise from outside. Staff friendly and helpful. Cooked breakfast to order, continental, juice, cereal & toast self service. Tea/coffee water from a flask (only warm) but staff helpful in getting hot mug of tea. Bed comfortable enough but facilities in need of upgrading. Price a little high but it was convenient.

Fab hotel. Ideal for people who smoke as rooms lead to outside space with jars for cigarette stubs. Staff really friendly and let us check in early because room available. The building is really quirky. Only downside was the house white wine was really bad and they stopped serving at 12 midnight on New Years Eve
