Hampton Inn Spartanburg-North I-85

We have started traveling a lot and always choose a Hampton Inn but this was not a great stay for us. The one staff member we encountered at the front desk was considerate but refused to sell us a snack kit since we haven't quite reached diamond Hilton Honors status. The request to buy snacks was made after the one and only vending machine (which was sp****) ended up as “out of order” after it malfunctioned while we were attempting to use it. The room was clean but definitely old. The shower had very low water pressure and there is no bath fan or ventilation. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and the TV was so old that it didn’t have HDMI so we could stream from our devices. The TV remote barely worked and was hit and miss when muting or changing the channel. There was no channel guide so you couldn’t even choose what to watch. We had to surf through channels and then wait for the commercials to end to see what was on. Lastly, the breakfast was a sad affair. No freshly baked muffins or biscuits just stale wrapped pastries that are gone by 8 am. The milk was warm since it wasn’t on ice. The butter might have actually been a butter spread? I will never know because it wasn't labeled and was in a plastic container with one spoon, which every guest used:( We will not be staying again and caution frequent Hampton Inn travelers to know it is not like the other facilities they are used to staying in.

A good hotel in Spartanburg. A few observations: -- the hotel is a premium hotel and you will pay accordingly. We had a good room and no complaints. But, if you are not picky, there is better value to be had in the Greenville, Spartanburg area. -- the hotel is very elegant with nice artwork and furnishings. -- breakfast was not included, but it was a good setup that offered an upscale selection. -- the lobby is super noisy at night (there was a loud bar and it is a massive open space). Not a big problem, but travelers with young children or those looking for peace and calm should be aware of it. -- the pool looks huge in the Marriott website photo. It's not, lol... trick photography... -- parking was plentiful and fine. Overall, we were happy. I might price shop and stay somewhere else next time I am in town.

All of the staff were extremely nice, especially Ethan and the breakfast staff. We were able to get extra pillows and a late checkout. I didn't realize how much I would need the late check out until the next morning. The AC in our room started sporadically ticking as soon as we laid down to sleep. My husband was injured earlier that day and I didn't want to move him so I tried to deal with the noise. Unfortunately, I'm a very light sleeper and the random ticks became torture for me throughout the night. By dawn the ticking lessened just in time for the near by train whistle to start. Nothing that the staff could've fixed in the moment but unfortunately, I dont think I'll return to see if we just had a bad room. However, I want to stress, we had no issues with the staff or other amenities.

This used to be the nicest hotel in town and now it is barely what I would consider a 3 star hotel on a good day. The check-in experience was painfully slow and lacked any sense of welcoming. Upon arriving in our room, we discovered only 1 set of towels, no bath mat or hand soap, only 3 pillows on one bed while the other had 4 and only 1 pack of coffee and it was decaf. I tried calling AYS 3 times letting it ring for 20 times each and then finally resorted to using my cell to call the hotel and I finally got an answer. In addition to asking for additional towels and coffee, I asked for a luggage rack as there was not one in the room to which the agent (same one that checked me in) said they were located at the front door. When I explained what a luggage rack was (vs a luggage cart), he said the hotel did not have them. The room itself is very tired and in need of refurbishing as well as repair. Torn wallpaper, broken shade pulls, breaks in the tile are just a few issues. Dusting also sees to be non-existing as well as there was at least an inch on the air and vent returns. Prior to arrival, I received an email from the front office manager indicating “we are in the process of returning to normal operations”. Seriously other hotels are back to operating as they were pre-Covid, not sure you can keep milking the Covid excuse for what truly appears to be lack of care. Mr. Marriott Sr would turn in his grave if he set foot in this hotel. Sadly since Mr. Marriott Jr stepped down and the company acquired Starwood, the quality of product and service at Marriott worldwide has been on a downward spiral and this hotel is leading the way.

The hotel is in a very good location, not far from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is close to the exit of the highway. There is a McDonald's next to it. It is convenient to eat. The hotel room is relatively large and the breakfast is OK. Good reviews!

Our initial impression of the facility was negative due to the older lady at the front desk. She was not very welcoming when greeting us nor apologetic regarding the time it took to check us in which was over 20 minutes. When we finally got to the room the AC was not working which required me to go back down to the check-in desk. Fortunately, another front desk clerk who was actually preparing to leave for the day assisted us by attempting to fix the AC and then eventually provided us with a different room assignment - she was wonderful - I wish I had gotten her name. Both rooms were exceptionally clean which pleased me to no end. The entire facility was very nice and impeccably clean. Everyone on the staff (from housekeeping to the numerous front desk staff we engaged with over the course of our stay) was very nice and accommodating with the exception of our initial check-in clerk. I would highly recommend this location but recommend they better train some of their staff.
