Hotels near Balluta square in St Julian＇s

Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. Excellent property with great location, extremely clean and comfortable, super friendly staff. Teo was extraordinary! He was a true example of excellent hospitality. He made our trip more exciting in Malta by guiding and giving us tips about the city and the attractions to cover in 72 hours. He made sure that everything was arranged for us accordingly. I couldn't thank him enough for the excellent level of service he had rendered. We will surely visit H Hotel on our next holiday and expect that will recommend your hotel to our family and friends.

Perfect location. Clean room. Great service. Good view. But.... I visited in March when it was very cold. No heating and the sliding door had many gaps where the wind whistled in so my two nights were very cold and no additional blankets.

We stayed here for a last minute break away for our anniversary. When we got dropped off the location was in a busy street late at night on a Saturday. When we arrived at the hotel we were expected being the last arrival of the day. Check in was very efficient and the reception doubled up as a bar. The room was very spacious and very clean, with a nice big double bed, ac, TV, safe, kettle, fridge and storage. The balcony was street facing which was small but enough for 2 and ideal for the hubby who smokes. The bathroom was again very spacious and very clean we had a nice walk in shower and the water pressure was also very good. We realised in the morning we were in the midst of a town with lots of construction but the noise could not be heard if the windows were shut. Due to this the AC was needed which is the only thing I can fault. Due to this being controlled by a panel on the wall by the entrance but no remote was available to control therefore had a disturbed sleep to change temp or switch on or off.

There are spiders on the walls of the room, and mosquitoes in the room have been flying, which is really unbearable. The living environment feels damp and a bit dirty. The bathroom is not too clean. There is no hair dryer in the public area, but many youth hostels provide hair dryers. The lights in the bathroom often go out, and the lights suddenly go out after taking a shower. The roommate was very noisy, still calling at one or two in the middle of the night, and didn't sleep well for three days. Except for the great attitude of the service staff, everything else is very general. Will not come again in the future.

After much deliberation for location and hotel for our stay in Malta we chose 'The Regency Plaza, Sliema*' and after a fantastic week here we know that we chose well. Very happy with the hotel from the reception - happy to help with anything and everything, baggage storage (until our room was ready), our room, the bed, the view, the pool (outdoor one is blooming cold but who cares!), the breakfast choice to most importantly, location! It's important to know that *Sliema is massive and where the ferries go from. This hotel is quite a distance from there (although easily walkable) and is actually situated in Exiles Bay (Bus stop is actually Antik - right outside the hotel) a much quieter and prettier area. We were put on the 5th floor and were so glad as the views were superb and also the outside noise isn't as intense, but the sliding door to the balcony is very effective at cutting out the noise anyway. I loved to sit and watch the world go by early morning and evening - people jogging, walking, taking dogs for a walk or the may electric scooters whizzing by. We had no trouble sleeping nor did we hear any other noise (like music or road traffic etc). There are a couple of nice bars/restaurants opposite the hotel and directly out of the hotel entrances (yes, there are two receptions and entrances) is a pizza place (which you walk through to get in) and a Costa Coffee shop. Our room was a reasonable size and had all the amenities we needed - safe, hairdryer, plenty storage, a nice shower (but you do have to pay extra for coffee making facilities) but the toilet took forever to re-fill after a flush - a tad annoying but nothing I'd really moan about. The shower had some marks on the grouting but overall the room was very clean and the maids came everyday. Bed was comfortable and blackout curtains ensured a good nights sleep. Breakfast was a very, very typical European hotel offering. Cooked sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, tomatoes etc. Plenty choice of break, fruit, meats and cheese. Lovely fresh cooked warm croissants with a choice of jams, chocolate sauce and more. Coffee and juice via machines and waitresses very efficently cleaning up after you as soon as you are done, so no clutter of plates on tables etc. As mention, the top floor swimming pool was excellent but really cold. We found this both bracing and refreshing on the warmer days, plenty of sunloungers, a pool bar and mutliple level seating (as there are two sides to the hotel, you can cross over). We got a 7 day bus travel card for €21 each and we used them to death as it is so simple to get anywhere on the island by bus. They are clean, frequent and convenient. The bus stops are right outside the hotel for either direction. They can get full during 'rush hours' but that's always part of the charm of travel by bus we find! Stayed for 7 nights in a deluxe room on 10th floor. Check in was easy and very efficient. Room was large with a decent balcony. Bathroom had separate shower and bath. Not very many electric points and no USB charging points. Overall the room was good but in need of modernising. We had an issue with knocking from the water pipes ( not in our room) for our whole stay. Breakfast was plentiful, but limited options for vegetarian and even less for vegan choice. Pool area was great, with lots of loungers and shaded areas. Staffing at the pool bar seemed to be a bit hit or miss, one day 6 staff, the next day 2. Service at the hotel bar was also an issue on a few occaisions, mainly when there were conference groups. The location of the hotel was great, but not for those who would struggle with stairs. Overall great location, but faded granduer and some staffing issues

Well, what a great hotel. We arrived on the opening day after a name change from the last hotel name (same owners, different name) We was meant to go to Las Vegas but it didn't happen so we went to Malta. The Hotel was stll being refurbished but a lot of the rooms was open, We was given room 3124 a gorgeous room, with a really nice view. We was shown to our room by Vikky (Viktoria, the Guest Relations Manager) after being checked in by Natalia (i think) We also got a bottle of wine for our long awaited honeymoon as our honeymooon kept being cancelled including the Las Vegas one. As Hilton Diamond members we get breakfast included in our room rate, Breakfast is an expansive affair with far too much to choose from, i went for Salad, i know, crazy right. but topped it off with a nice omelette. The outdoor pool is small but very good, the indoor pool much larger but far too hot for us. Service is great and fast, they was always out taking orders and bringing drinks quickly so you could enjoy more outdoor time. After a few days of being there we asked if we could upgrade to All Inclusive which turned out to be very good, we'd done everything we wanted to do in St Paul's bay so wanted to hang in or near the hotel. All the food is delicious and drinks, although confusing of what was allowed for AI customers, i made the suggestion of having a drinks menu of what drinks ARE allowed as we got a lot of you 'can't have that' A few members of staff made our stay really fantastic and always took the time to say hi and have a great conversation. These include Vikki (GRM) Lorenzo (bar supervisor) Jason in the same bar, always happy, always friendly and Desislav Juniper bar and other staff that we just didn't get their names. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the main Square with a vast amount of shops, bars and restaurants. This used to be the old Dolmen Hotel and they have retained a lot of their staff, it's been nice seeing them adapt to a new system which can be challenging but they will get there in time. At the time of writing this review, there still are building works going on but getting less and less as its all getting finished. I spent 5 days in hotel due to business visit to Malta. First feeling was-it feels like home, it is very comfortable since room is equipped with everything you need (if anything missing, reception stuff was always helpful). My room was on the 9th floor with a great view, and quite calm. Since I visited in February, I was not lucky to use rooftop pool, but I would be happy to go back since there is a great view from the pool (pool deck was open so you could go and catch some sun). Another plus is that there is laundry service in basement, which I imagine for trips longer than just a few days is very useful. Everything was very clean (they do weekly cleaning which I didn't mind as I read policy in advance), and staff was very nice. Check in was smooth and late check out was possible since room was not booked, that I appreciated greatly due to late flight that day. I found out that currently they are switching between operators for kitchen so unfortunately I didn't get to experience lunch/dinner that was mentioned in previous comments, but I believe this will add so much to their offer from March onwards. You can still order food through Wolt and have it at home (which I found very cozy!), which is a plus compared to classic hotel concept. Location is in Msida, which is more of residential area, which I didn't mind (since I lived in this area some years ago when I was working in Malta) since it's very quite and you can reach the sea by walk. It's very central so by taxi or bus is also quite easy and fast to reach touristy and bars area. Overall great experience and very comfortable. I would recommend.
