DoubleTree by Hilton Stratford Upon Avon

We stayed there two nights and there were 4 of us thus two, Deluxe rooms were booked. Absolutely nothing, except the size, was anywhere near Deluxe. The seats of the bar chairs were stained badly. The fridge in the room was empty, not even a bottle of water. When I asked if they had forgotten to fill it, the receptionist, totally disinterested, answered that they didn’t do that anymore and if we wanted a bottle of water, we had to ask for it at the reception. It was free but only on request. The second day we returned from a long day out to find the room and bed not made up and the bathroom exactly as we had left it.. again at the reception, where I was told that that also was only on request. We have stayed in very many hotels this and also in past years but this was just totally at the bottom of the list even though it was one of the most expensive. €1,000 for two nights. There were no lights on the dark path around the hotel. All in all a discrace all round for any hotel, not to mind a, so called luxury hotel… terrible. Booking.com only mentions our favorable comments and that were ..Good beds and pillows and perfect location. Had I read any of the more honest reactions, I would never have chosen this hotel. Hospitality was totally lacking, just as the honesty on the Booking.com site. Sad after many years of loyal use and satisfaction.. very disappointed this year !

The hotel is generally good and the staff are attentive, but we would suggest avoiding the restaurant.  The hotel doesn't warrant a 4* with areas showing wear and tear such as water-damaged wood, mouldy seal in the bathroom, broken window locks, etc.  Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we were given a drinks voucher. After being advised our room was ready, we arrived at the room to find the maid still cleaning the room. The room included basic tea and coffee facilities and toiletries.  The pool/spa is limited and has a cold pool, a steam room, a sauna, and a gym.  We had booked into the restaurant for an evening meal, but when we arrived there was a table complaining about the food. They had sent their food back to the kitchen twice, and the staff were suggesting they send it back again. They walked out of the restaurant. Based on this, we thought we would order something that was pretty safe, so we ordered a burger and a chicken. However, the meat tasted cheap and of poor quality. The restaurant is charging gastro prices, but the quality is nothing better than Wetherspoons or worse. Again, the puddings were basic, with a vegan coconut ice cream that had an odd texture to it and a sticky toffee pudding that was no better than a cheap microwave pud. In our opinion, the staff were inappropriately dressed, with one waitress having such a short skirt that every time she moved you got to see more than you wanted. The bar staff were assisting in the restaurant, and one barman was dressed in hip-style jeans, which kept falling down. Although all very attentive and polite, it seemed that the hotel as a whole had very limited staff, with everyone just mucking in.  The breakfast was not much better than our evening meal. We arrived at 9.30am to find the milk, pastries, hot water, etc. had run dry. There was a selection of hot food, but once again the meat tasted cheap. The main waitress was incredibly young and either didn't communicate or spoke so incredibly quietly that you could not hear what she said.  At check out, we were not asked how our stay had been, and we felt that everything was done to avoid such communication.

Ok. Reviews. Let's get this out of the way. They do not have TVs in the rooms. I find this hard to believe that's a reason to give a lower rating. We stayed at an apparently 4 star prior to here and they had a TV in the room and they've refunded us our money because the stay/room/service/hotel was bad. (Not going to mention them). They didn't even quibble, they acknowledged it. So if this is a massive thing for you,  take a tablet or laptop. We all have them. There you go, done. So in summary, they do not have TVs but  have the most amazing walks, staff and surroundings. Lovely welcome in reception. The rooms were clean and bathrooms mastic mould free!!! Doesn't happen in many.  Beds were lovely and comfy, reception give you any extra coffees you want, there was no quibble. 24 hr bar if you wanted it for residents. In the main bar area, it overlooks the golf course, the restaurant also. The restaurant services approx 36 people ish (at a time) don't quote me, this is a guesstimate. The bar lounge also has 25 people to sit? Again, don't quote me, it's a guesstimate. (Make sure you book a table though) You can also just go for drinks and you don't have to eat if you don't want to. There are many places within the area if you wanted to eat out. (You have to drive or taxi for this though, not walking distance). The quality of food they serve is not a Wetherspoons menu. This is fresh and locally sourced and not cooked in bulk. If you're looking for piles of food on a plate for £10, probably not the place for you. The food was amazing and the best I've had for a while. The waiting staff were there in a blink of an eye if you wanted something. You are roughly 30 mins from visiting places of interest. But you could expand further, it's very easy to access places. The area is a stunning place, Feldon valley I would recommend and would definitely return to.

The service was great! There was an error with room allocation and as the booked room was not available, we got upgraded to a suite which was wonderful as we were celebrating a special milestone birthday. The dinner at the Trevellyn Restaurant was beyond expectation as we were vegetarian and the vegetarian meal prepared by the chef was awesome. The hotel decor itself looked a little tired although it added to the authentic look of the listed building. It was a hot weekend during our stay and although there was no air conditioning, a small fan was provided which made a little difference when sleeping at night. The gardens needed some upkeep and it would have been lovely if the fountains had been working. Overall we did enjoy our stay and look forward to coming back again after it has gone through some upgrading and refurbishing.

Excellent hotel in a super location, within easy reach of all the centre attractions especially the RSC. Interesting chice of rooms as the building has been stubstantially and very tastefully restored, we opetd for a contemporary room as they have lift service. Lovely staff, we had breakfast, excellent and swift service and great choices. Not the cheapest accommodation (there is car parking at additional cost) but if you ant to give yourself a treat, this is highly recommended. I will review the Woodman restaurant elsewhere.

Couple with dog. For two nights we didn't have hot water. We rang reception an spoke to the duty manager - the second time...He told us it was because there was a coach load of people staying who had all taken a shower/bath at the same time on their return, and we would have to wait until it heated up again. That didn't allow for the lack of pressure - a trickle! In the end we gave up - no shower/bath. However, the duty manager assured us that the manager would find us the next morning.... this never happened, On the Saturday night the same thing happened. The excuse given by the receptionist for the manager not having found us that morning was there was a wedding and all managers were needed - they didn't start their shift until 11am. The duty manager couldn't speak to us as he was working at the wedding - Saturday night - but Leanne assured us that she had noted our complaint and that she had written up notes, and our inconvenience (now not having hot water for two nights of a three night stay) would be reflected in our invoice on checking out. This wasn't the point. The stay was supposed to be a relaxing, super special treat, not able to have a shower or a bath at night was NOT okay! She assured us that on the third night the 'tour' party and 'wedding party' would have left. So we would have hot water. Which we did. On checking out the receptionist had no idea about our complaint, and therefore couldn't help us. We are in the process of writing a compliant, and a review. The staff and hotel did not let you down - the management did! I have a video of the water pressure. On another point, the hotel is described as dog friendly. This might be the case. You can bring your dog for a fee of £25 a night, however, on check in we were told we had to eat in the bar area or outside. Luckily the weather was okay. However, we felt like second class citizens! Not only that but the bar area has no tables at which anyone could eat a meal - the tables are all low and only fit for snacks!
