Firstly the hotel is set in the most beautiful grounds, with some nice outside areas to relax and enjoy an evening drink. Unfortunately that is the best thing that I can say about the hotel. We were part of a large group and while we had a mixture of reserved rooms both in the main hotel and newer block, they were all pretty basic on amenities. The rooms all needed refreshing and updating. There was air conditioning units fitted in the ceiling of our room (in the newer block) but no controls in the room, so essentially no air conditioning at all. I tried to use the iron but this spat out loads of water and soaked my top and the ironing board. I had to use the hairdryer to dry my top (at least there was one in the room to use) The mattress was rock hard, the duvet much too heavy and this coupled with the lack of air conditioning, made it difficult to sleep. The bedding did not smell fresh, it had a slight musty smell, it did look clean, but suspect the room was prepared but not used for a while before we stayed in it. Our party had a prebooked meal served in the restaurant, unfortunately the food was very bland, the side of potatoes accompanying my dish were black and I had to return them. The following morning, we were all shown back to the same room for breakfast and while the table clothes had been wiped down with fresh cutlery, there were still food splashes on the cloth from dinner and there were crumbs on the chairs that I had to wipe off. There was a lot of food and crumb debris on the carpet. Staff had obviously not bothered to do a full clean of the room before serving breakfast. Breakfast itself was fine, with the usual offerings. Due to the issues mentioned above, I would not return and could not recommend, a shame as the hotel grounds are a delight.
