We stayed just one night at The Star on our route north. The pub is characterful, ivy covered frontage and popular with locals. It is frequently used during the Silverstone meetings. We stayed in Arkle, one of the three rooms named after racehorses. A cozy room, with tea and coffee, a decent TV and free wifi (a little temperamental) . The bed is large and very comfortable and the bathroom is a good size with a powerful shower. All in all a pleasant place to stay a night and we had a meal in the evening in the bar. The food is very definitely pub grub, a lot of chips and not a massive choice. I was a little disappointed because there were far too many chips, but others may find this quite a good thing! Friendly atmosphere and staff, we enjoyed our evening in the bar. There are a good selection of wines, local gins alongside beers. In the morning we had a continental breakfast, cereals, croissants, etc. The staff were absent and it's a help yourself affair, quite adequate and we knew in advance we were not having a cooked breakfast. If you prefer cooked you would need to ask if it is available, but I understand it is always a help yourself breakfast. I enjoyed my night at The Star, it's comfortable, clean, friendly and a convenient stop if you are going northward.
