My husband had to have a procedure at Moffitt Cancer Center that required us to be away from home for a significant period of time. We were on a waiting list for housing at the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge and needed something in the interim (approximately a 2-week stay). I drove to several hotel properties while my husband was hospitalized to get a “feel” for the area, since Tampa is new to us. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot, the Hampton Inn and Suites just felt right. It’s hard to explain! I needed to let the social worker at the hospital know where we would be staying upon discharge and when I told her, she told me I made a good choice! Making the reservation was a little difficult because we didn’t have an exact end date since we didn’t know when our other lodging would become available. I contacted the hotel directly and explained the situation and Debbie told me to call central reservations. I called the toll-free number and was given the rate of $212/night for a suite with a kitchen. I explained that we would be eligible for the Moffitt rate of $134/night and was put on hold for a lengthy period of time while the rep had to check with the hotel. I wish I could have made our reservations directly with the local property. I received confirmation emails with the $212 rate and also with the $134 rate and was worried, but the correct rate was honored. My husband was discharged from the hospital two nights earlier than expected. I again called central reservations, who contacted the local property and there was no issue. That gave us such peace of mind. When we arrived at the hotel, Stephen, who saw we were wearing masks, immediately put a mask on as well. We were so touched by his thoughtfulness! When I was returning the luggage cart to the lobby area, Stephen saw me and came over to get it so I wouldn’t have to walk the rest of the way. He’s just so caring. Our suite was the cleanest hotel room we have ever been in. The kitchen was spotless, the bathroom was shiny clean, and the sheets were crisp. My husband is immunocompromised, so germs are a big deal. Although the furnishings (carpeting, curtains, furniture) were dark, it still felt immaculate! It’s obvious that Cynthia, Sonya, and all of the housekeeping staff care. They’re so friendly, too! The hotel is located in a quieter part of town and it was so peaceful. We slept like babies on the most comfortable bed and never heard any noise. Maintenance was constantly being done on the outside - tree trimming, pressure washing, mowing - making it obvious that this property is in such great shape because someone cares. The only disappointing part of our stay was that our Firestick would not work with the television. We called and were told we needed a different remote and it was brought right away. That didn’t work. We called back and Joe came down from the front desk and tried to help. He said he needed to know so he could help other people, but he still couldn’t get
