We spent 3 nights here and it was the worst place we stayed in during our trip to Japan. Please see the pictures and decide for yourself. This place is dirty and the building is not well maintained. We stayed at other ryokans that were renovated and clean. This place was anything but clean. The dirty walls, stain on the glass doors, peeling wood off the ceiling in our room was noticeable since the beginning. There are living cockroaches in the hostel. Old sheets and bedding that had changed color and made me wonder if they were properly washed. Old beanbag pillows which were not comfortable. We instead rolled clothing under our heads to sleep. The shower rooms were in bad condition and terribly dirty. There was a number of soap, shampoo and conditioners left from previous guests and the manager provided those to us to use. All 20 residents shared two small garbage bins located in the hall rather than individual ones in every room. The hostel seems to be predominantly for male travelers. We happened to have a group of male travellers above us who liked to party until late at night and left us restless. During our stay, there was 3 females including myself out of 20 travellers which made it feel like a male dormitory as everyone shared total of 4bathrooms and two showers in the hostel. The privacy of our room was affected by the gap beside the entrance door so the inside of our room was visible from the outside (see picture). There was a shared kettle, teaspoons (no other cultery), handful of cups, instant coffee and tea in the common room. A mini fridge was shared among all 20 travellers. Towels were available for an extra cost (100yen for two). Currently (May/2024), there are two new construction sites by the hostel that start working by 8am and the construction noise is very loud. One site is right beside the hostel and one is located the opposite side from the hostel. Hope future guests read this information and make an informed decision.

It had a great atmosphere of an old-fashioned merchant's lodge. The price was reasonable and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy the Showa era.
