Kaktus Hotel Kaktus Playa - Adults Recommended

Our stay at Kaktus Playa was nice and comfortable but definitely not a 5 star experience. Check in was rushed, no information/tour offered about hotel facilities. No help with luggage. No information provided on surrounding area (restaurants, attractions, etc.). Asked for restaurant and spa reservation to be made, reception declined. Recommended restaurants weren’t open at all during the week. Spa facilities were lacking and was charged for by the hour for access. Fresh towels for the pool required deposit. Showed a lack of trust in guests. Rooftop lounge had no bar, had to go down 8 floors to order drinks/food. Breakfast buffet was nice, but at a five star I’d expect at least for staff to be making/serving hot drinks instead of making it ourselves (long queue at the coffee machine). Website is not reflective of the current services (e.g. Bahari Club was only open on the weekend, but the Kaktus website states it is open daily from 9am to 2am.). Main bar was only open on the weekend, as we were told on arrival it is off-season. Very noisy building works next to hotel on poolside, not conducive to a relaxing environment. Not enough facilities, luxury or level of customer service to be a five star.

Nowhere near a 5 star hotel. Plastic fittings everywhere in rooms. Even priciest rooms. Don't forget to bring your own coffee as charged for in rooms. Also water charged for. Never been to a 5 star hotel that charges for such amenities. Breakfast not bad but expect chaos after coach party has just left.

Lovely hotel, we arrived late on a Friday night and was greeted by the lovely Avi- they upgraded our room for free to our surprise to a slightly bigger room. The room was very spacious and had everything we needed. Shampoo, body wash and conditioner were included in the shower. The conditioner wasn’t very nice though it was a bit slimy so I would recommend bringing your own if you’re fussy on conditioner. There were fresh towels provided every day in our room and the house keeping team were brilliant at cleaning the room everyday! There is a mini fridge in the room which is handy. When you arrive there are two small bottles of water in the room, unfortunately there are no water fountains in the hotel to refill the bottles which is a bit of a let down but you can just go across the road to the little shop and get a big bottle of water for €1 anyway. There is a Nespresso machine in the room which is a nice touch however they only give you 2 capsules and then you have to pay 50 cent per capsule for more in the room. The room has electric roller blinds and electric shutters that can come up or down via the buttons next to your bed which was a nice touch and helps you get a good sleep as the room is blacked out. The shower was lovely and spacious and the bed was relatively comfy. I particularly liked the pillows you do get two each and they’re nice. The breakfast was brilliant, lots of variety and very accommodating for allergies. There is an omelette station where you can have your omelette made with your choice of fillings. There are different types of milk available including soya milk, oat milk and even lactose free milk. There are many varieties of juices and sparkling wine available. There is a huge Nespresso machine with a variety of tea bags (herbal teas) and coffee pods. There was sausages, bacon, hash browns, grilled veg, cold meats, cheeses, bread, cereal, fresh smoothies and pastries all available. The pool is nice and there was enough sun loungers however in the peak season I can imagine these get full very quickly. The pool bar offers some really nice lunch options I had the Caesar salad however this was smothered in dressing. The prices at this bar a bit more than average though. The bar staff are great, we loved Reuben! Such a laugh The spa is an additional €10 per person for one hour. It’s okay but morning special and a bit dated compared to the rest of the hotel it has a pool, sauna, shower, steam room and jacuzzi. We did use it one day when it was raining just a shame you have to pay more for it but I suppose it does keep it less busy. Beach towels are a €10 deposit each but you get that back when you return them so that’s fine. There is a sky lounge on the rooftop with a pool which is great however again you have to pay €20 a day to access it. The day we wanted to go up there was a wedding party taking pictures so the reception staff kindly let us have a free pass later in the evening around 5pm as it shut at 7pm I think we we

The hotel itself was very clean, decorated lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic quality and cooked very well. Dinner started late at 8pm, which was a bit too late for us. Not sure if this was an attempt to get us to buy food from the hotel between breakfast and dinner, although we opted to just get snacks from supermarket across the road. I found the hotel good value for money, however was a bit disappointed with the extra charges, and spa was not worth paying 10 euros per person. Good train connection to Barcelona and Blanes, lots of beaches around. Was dissappointed with calella, found it run down and a bit like Benidorm, although this is not the fault of the hotel. Overall, good value for money and would recommend the hotel, but would research calella before booking.

The nicest staff on reception - a big thank you to AVI who was so friendly on arrival as were all the team - but his helpfulness was amazing - we had a flat tyre and needed help locating a repair, he directed us perfectly. We had a superior room which was spacious and very clean overlooking the pool. We didn’t get to eat in the hotel but the buffet restaurant looked really nice. The beach and beach area is also excellent. We enjoyed several days there. A great family place.

We had a wonderful week away as a couple and can't wait to come back. The breakfast was superb, the chef cooked everything fresh and to perfection. The location waa ideal, right next to supermarket, a short walk from the beach and to the main town. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day with fresh towels provided. We can not rate this hotel highly enough.
