Rooms very tired, needs a refurbishment. Bathroom extractor not working, towel rail not working, damp patches on walls. Room safe locked despite asking it to be opened. Worst was the dinner. Must have had a job lot of potatoes, served with nearly every choice, even with lasagne! Meals were tasteless and bland. Veggie options were sloppy.

Overall a great place with staff and that's all staff who make you feel welcome the food was of a very good standard, the room that we were in had a great view over to Brixham and Paignton, a great entertainment centre downstairs pool tables & snooker tables plenty of machines to keep the whole family happy, we are looking forward to next tournament 😁

We stayed at the Carlton for a birthday celebration . Had a lovely time , The restaurant was closed on the Sunday night but we were offered the Victoria restaurant , well we couldn’t fault it staff were lovely , a special mention for Storm , what a lovely smiling young man . A credit to your hotels . The restaurant manager was also very nice ,food was very good and choice was excellent . So much so we asked to eat there for the rest of our stay , pool area was great nice relaxing swim entertainment excellent , and finished off with a treat in the Aztec spa , and what it treat it was , thank you all The 60th Birthday table !

The first bad thing was the receptionist, she was rude and very unwelcoming, we knew we may have to pay for parking , but the manner it was dealt with, was short sharp an totally unnecessary and £40 for 4 nights was I feel extreme. the room although a standard family room was shabby , the bath had chips out of it. The food left alot to be desired, for £27.95 each it was crap . However the Alberts bar is worth a visit not just for a drink but for food as well, it cost less then the meal in the restaurant. My son and I found the games adequate, although you did have to look for the staff, they seemed more interested with there mobile phones then attending to the guest needs, and this only the first couple of days .

I have just stayed here for the weekend with my husband on a spa break. The first room we were given was right next to the door to the corridor and could hear the door closing so asked for a different room which the reception staff managed to sort out after a bit of a wait. Second room was further along the corridor but over looked the really busy road and as the room was always very hot, we had to open the window making it very noisy. The TV didn't work and a hotel employee came ton our room but weren’t sure how to fix it as it was one of the older TV’s. Towels were really quite small and robes for spa use felt like they were children's size. We asked at reception for larger ones but were told they are all one size, however staff at the spa told us that the reception staff say that as they can’t be bothered to check and happily gave us bigger sizes. Evening meals were ok, I appreciate they are catering for lots of people but more choice would’ve been nice. I have to agree with other reviews the mattress and pillows are really uncomfortable and the mattress springs could be felt and heard with every movement. These definitely need upgrading. This hotel does need a bit of renovating in some areas but it’s ok. The fire and ice experience was good but could be longer and the 30 minute massage was good. Friday nights entertainer wasn’t great but Saturday nights female entertainer was incredible. I don’t think I would stay here again as there are better hotels offering spa breaks for the same price.

My wife, grand daughter and I have just spent the weekend with our church at this hotel. The accommodation is excellent, as are the facilities. Our only complaint is about the service in the restaurant! Ben, the maître d', was certainly tested by our group. I think he and his very young staff did a good job, considering how fussy and finicky our group are!! There were delays in ordering food, there were no teaspoons anywhere [ever! ] . The young staff need training/reminding to keep an eye on replenishing items, before they run out! [Decaff coffee and normal teabags, milk, eggs on the servery, plates on the servery and teaspoons]. Please note this is not really a complaint, as our table seemed to be better off than others. Thank you for all you did for us.

We live in Torquay and visited the Carlton Hotel to dine with my sister-in-law who was staying there on holiday from Bexhill on Sea. The food was adequate and the staff were attentive and helpful. The meal however was expensive compared with other restaurants nearby. I do not normally write reviews for hotels or restaurants, good or bad, however, on this occasion there was a very expensive sting in the tail. I have now received a penalty charge of £100 for parking in the hotel car park. The signage indicating the parking charges when I visited were of poor quality and not illuminated and I did not see them. I have appealed this charge, but on reading the conditions for a successful appeal I will not be successful. On contacting the hotel it seems they have leased or have made other such arrangements with a national car parking organisation to manage their car parks. This might make sense from a financial point of view for the first year or two, but will deter customers from visiting The Carlton Hotel or the other hotels within the TLH Hotels Group in the future. Potential customers will easily find better value hotels in Torbay that don’t treat their customers as gullible cash cows.

We have stayed at the Derwent a few years back so we knew what to expect when we booked the Carlton, the hotel is very clean and bed was comfortable but the rooms are dated but have what you need for your stay. Staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast was good.
