Given how expensive Tulum has become this hotel is a fair price and a decent location. First, the positives: Price is reasonable, and if you are an IHG member, you will likely get upgraded, although I believe that just means a room on the top level (floor 3). Happy hour daily, so some free drinks and light apps are in the mix. Two pools, one with ample shade any time of day and one that is nice. Free bike usage* The location is a quick bike ride (turn right out of the hotel and go down through the roundabout, past the secrets resort, and enter the development by the fresh market) to a very swanky and new development with great restaurants, a fresh market, and coffee shops. The ride to the beach area is hot and not exactly close, but it's doable to the nearest portion of the hotel area. For most beach clubs, you'll want a car or taxi ($$) The beds are very comfortable, and the linens are nice. The bathrooms are large and well-appointed. The patios are nice; ground floor patios have lounge chairs but lack privacy, and upper levels have Adirondack chairs and a table. Photos show a swim-up bar; it is not staffed, but a waiter did come around from time to time. Free yoga classes on Th/Sat, the teacher was lovely, and the practice was very accessible. The Cons : Wear and tear are apparent. Lower pool loungers need repair and are sp****. *Bikes are super hit or miss. You may get a halfway decent one, or you may get one with a shifty seat and very bent rims. Breakfast is $30US pp, and service is quite dodgy. Twice, I went alone to breakfast, and it took me at least 20 minutes to get a coffee or to really be recognized. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend this place for a solo female traveler since we seem to be ignored, something I have never experienced in all my MX travels. The breakfast buffet was sometimes out at 9 a.m. and sometimes not so much, and the only options were a hotcake and some granola. The online description makes it seem like they have a beach club available—they don't really. They will just call and make a reservation for you at one of the many clubs. Pretty much every club has a minimum fee of $50-$150US plus the taxi cost there and back. In full disclosure, we came to Tulum multiple times in years past and hadn't been back in 7 years, so the sticker shock and rampant growth were jarring. If you are a first-timer here, you likely wouldn't be as critical as we were. But come prepared to spend $200-$300/day for beach, drinks and meals on top of your hotel.
